Toni Valliere: 25 things you don't know about me (2024)

.) Toni, Toni and Tony: I'm part of a family of Toni's! My mother is Toni, my grandfather is Tony and my father is Anthony. It was very interesting when I was a kid and the phone would ring. I would answer, and if it wasn't for me, I would say mom or dad whoever wants to talk.

.) I am an only child and the only grandchild on both sides of the family, so I was a little spoiled by my grandparents.

.) My grandfather even has my high school senior photo tattooed on his hand.

.) I was born in Whittier, Calif., but moved to Huntington Beach when I was 4 years old.

.) Having grown up in Southern California, I am a Los Angeles Lakers fan at heart.

.) Every family dog we had was an Old English Sheepdog. The picture on the left is of me with Bill (our new puppy at the time) and Sheila. The photo on the right is of my daughter Macy sitting next to my parents' dog Turner.

.) When I moved out, I got a Bulldog. His name was Leon. He was high-maintenance but had the most personality of any dog I've ever met. He only lived to be 9 years old. My heart is still broken over losing him; I treated him like a child before I had children.

.) I have a small Betty Boop collection. I've liked Betty Boop since I was a little girl. Now, my little girl has taken over my collection. We'll see how long it stays intact.

.) Growing up, I learned to play many instruments, including the piano, guitar and my favorite -- the drums. Sadly, I can't remember how to play any instruments now.

.) The first concert I ever attended was Guns N Roses and the Rolling Stones. The band Living Colour opened up for them. I was about 10 years old and was looking most forward to seeing Guns N Roses, but I must admit The Rolling Stones put on a much better performance.

.) I love music. I enjoy everything from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Led Zepplin to Katy Perry, Adele and Madonna. But most people would be surprised to learn that the music I listen to the most is Hip Hop. I love Drake, Wale, J. Cole and anything old school.

.) I traveled the world as a kid. My mother worked for the airline industry, and we flew for free. It's still one of my favorite things to do, but now that I have to pay full price for tickets, it doesn't happen as often. I loved traveling to Greece with my family right after my 6th grade class finished studying Ancient Greece and Greek Mythology.

.) I spent a lot of time in Germany as a kid. We fell in love with its beauty instantly. We would travel there twice a year -- once in the summer and once in the winter. Garmisch Partenkirchen was our favorite place to visit. It's a few hours south of Munich. Every year, we would ski the Alps. After our first trip there, my mother and I signed up for German language courses, and during my senior year of high school, I spent seven months as an exchange student in Germany.

.) Tahiti is another one of my favorite places to visit. My mother talked me into swimming with sharks there and told me they wouldn't come near us. She lied. They came very close, but it was an amazing experience.

.) My father has worked for Sony Pictures for more than 30 years. He's a carpenter and has built many sets for the company's TV shows and movies. Almost every time I had a break from school, I would go to work with him. I loved checking out the sets of "Married with Children," "Full House," and "Dynasty" (going way back now). Some of the furniture in our home was from his work.

.) One of my favorite internships was when I worked as the assistant to the chief engineer of the 72nd Academy Awards (the year Angelina Jolie won an Oscar for her performance in "Girl Interrupted"). I saw and met too many celebrities to name, including Angelina, but it was Whitney Houston that I will remember most. I ran down the stairs of the Shrine Auditorium to listen to her rehearse and on the way down, I sprained my ankle. Now that it's healed, I can say it was worth it -- she sounded amazing, but she couldn't get the words right, despite the very large teleprompter in front of her. She was fired from the show, and Faith Hill took her place.

.) I graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a BA degree in Broadcast Journalism. Go Titans!

.) My first job was as a hostess at a restaurant called Jon's Coffee Shop in Huntington Beach. I was 15 when I started. A year later I became a waitress and worked there until I was 21. This is a picture of me and the head chef Tino with my parents' dog Parker.

.) I also worked at a stock brokerage in Newport Beach that had breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. I loved driving down PCH to work every morning. I considered taking the Series 7 to become a broker, but changed my mind after seeing how stressful the job can be.

.) I met my husband when I was 19 years old. We dated for 5 years before getting married in 2003. One year later, we moved to Joplin, Missouri where I landed my first job in broadcasting.

.) My husband and I have two children, Cole and Macy. They keep us busy and always have us laughing. This picture was taken in 2015 while on a double-decker bus tour through Chicago.

.) I started out as a weather anchor at the NBC affiliate in Joplin. Luckily, the station trained me because, let's be honest, Southern California pretty much has the same type of weather year-round, so I knew very little about thunderstorms, ice storms or tornadoes. I loved it and sometimes still miss covering weather.

.) I'm a jogger. I would say runner, but I'm not very fast. I have completed several 5k's and half-marathons in the Midwest and hope to do many more here in California.

.) I love to cook. I'm not great at it, but enjoy learning new recipes. I love when my kids ask if they can help. I'm teaching them the few Italian recipes I have, which includes our family's staple pasta sauce and meatballs.

.) I enjoy reading. I try to get through at least one book each month. I love reading biographies, especially ones about celebrities. My favorites include the biographies of Rob Lowe, Hoda Kotb, Regis Philbin and Ross Mathews.
