Petal 2 Card Review
5.0 / 5
The Petal® 2 Visa® Credit Card is a very good starter credit card for people with limited or no credit. The Petal 2 Visa Card is worth considering because it has $0 fees, rewardsof 1 - 1.5% cash back on alleligible purchases, and monthly credit-bureau reporting.
Getting approved for the Petal 2 Card shouldn’t be too difficult, even for young people with limited or no credit experience. The card’s main requirements are that an applicant must be at least 18 years old and a legal U.S. resident with a Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number and enough income or assets to afford monthly bill payments, in light of existing financial obligations.
The key to making the Petal 2 Visa Card pay off is to pay the full statement balance owed by each due date. On-time payments will make the card more rewarding over time. And by paying in full, you can avoid the card’s potentially high interest rate.
If you’re not sure whether applying for the Petal 2 Card is the right move for you, we’ll explain the most important considerations in more detail below.
Petal 2 Card Review Highlights
$0Annual Fee
“No annual fee” is the most important credit card feature for newcomers. Annual fees can easily outweigh the value of rewards on starter credit cards.
0%Foreign Fee
Internationally-processed purchases won’t cost you extra with the Petal 2 Card. That could save you money not only if you travel abroad, but also if you make purchases through internationally-based merchants while in the U.S.
Initial Bonus: None
Student credit cards tend to be the only credit cards for people with limited credit that offer initial rewards bonuses.
APR: 18.24% - 32.24% (V)
Each applicant who is approved for an account receives a rate from that range, based on their overall creditworthiness. In particular, creditors consider an applicant’s credit score, income and existing financial obligations. For context, the average credit card offer charges about 22.89%.
Credit Limits: $300 - $10,000
Most starter credit cards have $300 minimum credit limits. Credit newcomers are unlikely to qualify for a limit anywhere near the $10,000 maximum, however.
Still, the fact that the Petal 2 Card’s limits do skew higher than normal for a no-credit credit card could benefit your credit score. Assuming your spending stays the same, a higher limit would result in lower credit utilization.
Rewards Rates: 1 - 1.5% Cash Back
The Petal 2 Visa Card gives at least 1% cash back on all eligible purchases. The earning rate goes up to 1.25% cash back after six straight months of on-time payments, and it jumps again – to 1.5% cash back – after 12 consecutive months of paying on time. In other words, the Petal 2 Card promotes responsible habits by providing a lot of rewards value as an incentive.
For context, the average cash rewards card gives 1.15% back on all purchases. That’s market-wide, too, not just among credit cards for people with no credit. In fact, most credit cards for no credit can’t compete with Petal when it comes to rewards.
Card Issuer: WebBank
WebBank is a relatively small credit card issuer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to the Petal 2 Card, WebBank issues the Petal® 1 Visa® Credit Card, the Fingerhut Credit Account and other co-branded credit card accounts.
Card Network: Visa
Visa is one of the four major card networks, along with Mastercard, American Express and Discover. The fact that it’s a Visa card means you can use the Petal 2 Card anywhere that accepts plastic.
Credit-Bureau Reporting: 3 bureaus, monthly
Monthly credit reporting gives cardholders the opportunity to build good credit history by paying bills on time and keeping balances well below the credit limit.
The Petal 2 Card has not been around for long, having launched in October 2018. And this newcomer credit card is pretty darn good for credit card newcomers. To make sure it’s the right fit for you, click the “Apply Now” button on this page and check for Petal 2 Card pre-approval. It won’t affect your credit at all, and you’ll be able to get a sense of how likely you are to be approved if you do apply for real.
By the way, if you apply for the Petal 2 Card and do not get approved, you will automatically be considered for the new Petal 1 Card, which offers less in rewards but is easier to get.

What is the Petal 2 Card credit limit?

The Petal 2 Card credit limit is $300 to $10,000. Everyone who gets approved for Petal 2 Card is guaranteed a credit limit of at least $300, and particularly creditworthy applicants could get limits a lot higher than that. The higher an applicant's credit score and income are, the higher the starting credit limit is likely to be.

Yes, the Petal 2 Card does have pre-approval. Petal has an online pre-approval page where potential applicants can quickly check their odds of approval for certain Petal credit cards before they apply for one.
Current Petal customers may also receive pre-approved offers periodically by e-mail. And in some cases, Petal will mail people pre-approved offers for a specific credit card.

You don't need a specific credit score to get the Petal® 2 Visa® Credit Card because it is available to people with no credit. However, if you have already established a credit history, you will need at least fair credit (640+ credit score) to get this card.
You should note that while your credit score is an important factor, there are plenty of other things that will impact your chances of being approved for the Petal 2 Card Card, too....

However, to get the Petal card, you'll still need to submit an application. Just go to this page and enter your unique invite code and last name. Your credit score may be affected if you decide...

Accidentally made too big of a payment on my credit card and then the app would not let me cancel it; my fault so no worries on that. I still needed to cancel it as it was for an amount bigger than what I currently held in my bank account. I emailed them and they said to call my bank to stop it, so I called my bank, and lo and behold, they said to contact my credit card company. Okay, no biggie, but after sending multiple emails back to Petal, I get no response and a negative balance on my bank statement. I give them 1 star not only for the card itself but the pss poor customer service and inability to assist me. I feel a company's customer service is what makes and breaks them. It's fine that the only option when you click 'contact us' is an email address, but you better answer the email! Will be canceling my card as soon as possible, especially since there are so many better options with better customer service. Dislike.

I applied for a 500-dollar credit limit. On top of all my other bills, which I know many people can relate to, this exclusively online card slipped my mind. I didn't receive any in-person mail, emails, or notices of any kind. Today, a constable with a badge showed up in my driveway, handing me a court summons and recording a live video of me as I was just getting home from work. They had increased the amount to almost 1,000 dollars. If this is their typical business practice regarding 23-year-old individuals who are on their own, I wouldn't recommend this card to anyone who makes a human error every now and then!

This card is inadequate, and I regret accepting it. I always made my payments on time, but when I decided to pay off the card, they wouldn't accept my payments because I wouldn't link my bank account to this card. In the end, I was able to cancel and close the account. It was a true waste of time. Worst card in the world with even worse customer service.

Horrible card—I applied and was approved for a $1350 limit, and after a few months of having this card, I disputed three charges from Apple.com. The dispute process took 90 days, and Petal refused to release the funds that were held by Visa and took their sweet time. So I requested for my card to be closed and asked them to update the status as "closed" on my credit bureau. They refused, and it took another 90 days after I closed my credit card to update as "closed" on many credit bureaus. Additionally, the agents were rude. Stay away from this company.

By far the worst credit card company to ever exist! Do not waste your time with this sorry excuse for a company. God forbid life happens to you and you can't pay your card; they don't care at all and will continue to report you to the credit bureaus. They do not offer a hardship program and this company is all around A POS!!!!!!!!!

Company screwed me over, forcing me to get a petal 1 rise credit card over my original petal 2 which has fees and a monthly payment. They refuse to change my account, stating their system can't handle that, yet their system handled changing my account in the first place. I have a 750 credit score, on time payment history with them for 3 years, and they screw me over. Do NOT get this card.
