Museums

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is an interesting museum that contains permanent exhibits on a variety of different science-related topics. The Planetarium is especially popular, and it presents a range of astronomy and science shows for visitors to enjoy. The butterfly house is also a nice touch.

Great place to go explore. Lots of interactive exhibits. About 1/4 of the museum is something that you have to pay extra for so keep that in mind. The exhibits were daily clean and there were hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum. Great spot for children or curious adults. We spent about two hours here exploring all of the different floors. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded. Good overall experience.

Katelyn Meredith — Google review

Great museum!! Lots to do and look at if you live in the area or close enough the membership is totally worth it. Each special exhibit was an additional cost. The "shows" in the theater are shown on a dome screen sit high up so you don't have to tilt your head up so far we saw the "death of the dinosaurs" I felt it could have been better I most likely won't be paying extra for the theater shows anymore but Ramses exhibition was worth the additional cost. Thursdays have free entrance hours just check their website for details.

Vanessa Aldama — Google review

Absolutely stellar museum. Honestly, the best natural science museum I have ever gone to. The Paleontology, Fossilized Wood, and Gem exhibits were our favorites; but the entire museum was incredible. The exhibits were large with a plethora to see and learn about.I highly recommend getting there as soon the museum opens if you don't want to be stuck in crowds. We showed up at 9 and didn't encounter any crowds until we went to exit.We will 100% be back!

Kay K — Google review

Along with the Zoo this was the star of the city pass attractions.Negatives are high add an prices for things like the King Tut exhibit which was overshadowed by the included, permanent Egypt Hall. With that out of the way the crowd was much better managed that other city pass attractions and the dinosaurs, and geology sections were awesome along with the Egypt sections. Amazing.Hidden in the back of the second floor is the geology section with some of the most amazing gems and geological structures I have ever seen. And further hidden in the gem vault are some stunning pieces of jewelry.Dinosaurs to gems to mummies, this is a great stop. We ran for three hours and couldn’t see it all. Leave more time.

Brian R — Google review

This museum is amazing! My group ended up spending about 6 hours here and barely scratched the surface of what is available to see. It’s definitely something that could be made into a multi-day event. Every exhibit has interesting things to look at and learn from. I went into every section expecting it to not be nearly as cool as the last and was pleasantly surprised every time when I was wrong! My favorite area of what I had time to see was the gem and natural mineral section. Pressure and time create some amazing things!

Clay Patrick (ClayDay) — Google review

Great place to visit. There is so much to see and do for everyone. They have tons of permanent exhibits you get to check out with your ticket (you can go in and out of these exhibits all day so hold on to your ticket). Plus they have fun extra things to check out like the butterfly and the Egyptian exhibits (you do have to pay a little extra for those though still worth it). You can't take in food/drinks but you can leave and come back in.

Jenifer Woloson — Google review

This place is so big you really need open to close to see it all. So let’s start by free Thursdays. The website is not updated so it’s only free from 5-8pm parking is $30.00 if you park within the parking lot however if you can find street parking or cheaper near I suggest that. Everything in the museum district is close together. Also the up-sale is the little exhibits which we skipped. However the museum is so fun and exciting. It’s for all ages being a stroller for little ones. All the restrooms are clean all the signs were easy to read to navigate a lot of benches to rest. Overall 10/10

val chang — Google review

It was truly amazing, so many exhibits to see and not enough time to get through all of them. Each exhibit has a cost of its own. I did the Butterfly exhibit, Regular exhibit and the Shark exhibit. The regular exhibit has the Dinosaurs and Egyptian history. It was great to see paleontologists there to answer any questions. The butterfly was very beautiful and loved the interaction with the different species of butterflies. The shark exhibit was great, you get to touch a little shark! I would go back to try the space exhibit.

Alyssa — Google review

This museum will always be a hit for me. I love the atmosphere and the amazing customer service. Only advice I give people is to buy your tickets in advance, especially on the weekends because they will sell out for their temporary exhibits. Also the lines on the weekends are huge so be prepared for that. The permanent exhibits are amazing and the food court is okay. We had the pleasure to see a movie in their planetarium called passport to the universe, the experience was lovely and something I definitely recommend if you get a chance to. Overall I always love the experience I get here!

Jorge Sanchez — Google review

3 stars because PRICES ARE NOT AS ADVERTISED IN PERSON. It went from a $140 trip to $220 real fast. Just for admission. Pricing is very deceiving. In my opinion the “King Tut” exhibit is not worth the money. The hall of Egypt had wayyyy more awesome things and was included in the normal pass. Staff at the food court seemed to hate their jobs and were all rude. We went for our daughters Sweet 16 celebration and she had a good time because of course kids don’t pay attention to all that stuff and that’s all that matters to us. The website says allow 2hrs to explore but that is not nearly enough time if you want to enjoy the place. It definitely is worth going back a second time and spending the whole day there. Maybe we will encounter nicer employees and prices next time.

Christina Foreman — Google review

Went to the museum this past weekend with family from out of town. The kids and adults all loved it. The richness of display from the dinosaurs, Texas wildlife, minerals and Ancient Egypt was something to see. Our tour was quick just because we had a lot of little ones who became eager to leave to go eat.Plan to go for a good part of the day if you really want to enjoy this gem!!I highly recommend this as MUST see for anyone visiting the Houston area. Even better it's minutes away from Herman park and the Houston Zoo.

Moby Onacis — Google review

Have been to so many exhibits here and am just so happy that this place exists. It showcases educational and historical entertainment which is hard to find these days! Great for both kids & adults. They have a neat little café to enjoy some food while waiting for your show, if you're hungry. It can get packed on the weekends, buy your tickets online!

Peyman Jo — Google review

This place is amazing. It has a huge collection of dinosaurs. Huge collection of amazing shells. The Cabinet of Curiosities area was so much fun to explore and the kids loved looking in the drawers etc (though some of the drawers need maintenance). The gems and rocks were quite interesting. And can’t say enough about how detailed and awesome the energy floor was. It covered so many topics from the energy perspective and explained in great detail many of the concepts that most people take for granted. 1 day almost wasn’t enough time to fully experience everything here.

Justin Burgess — Google review

Love every time that I go and visit the butterfly exhibit was recently reopen but theres several exhibits including the newest one king Tut the sharks but the exhibit halls are classic. I also love to view B Baker Planetarium... It's great for dates or if you want to take children. Fun fact every Thursday it's free

Angel Arceneaux — Google review

Pretty cool place, honestly would give it a 5 star but you have to spend a lot extra when entering to see some of the exhibits and I just am not a big fan of that. The place is very beautiful and well maintained though. Customer service was kinda garbage, definitely recommend on the city pass! The gem room was by far the coolest part of the museum I think.

jarrod london — Google review

It’s a great place for anyone to come inside afor a respite from the weather—and a great way to spend the day.The King Tut exhibit was much smaller than expected. Egyptian exhibit (outside King Tut) was more exciting. The regular exhibits are always a delight.Planetarium shows are a good variation and time selection.Three hour parking available nearby.Parking garage is $30 for non-members and $10 for members.Staff everywhere is always so courteous.

Auda Gee — Google review

Entry to most exhibitions was included with the Houston City Pass deal. When you go in, join the member ticket line (which is shorter) so they can scan your code on your pass. I paid $27 extra to see the King Tut's Tomb Discovery Experience. The whole place is amazing and there is so much to see and take in. I particularly enjoyed the gemstones and dinosaur displays but really everything was intriguing. Highly recommend when you are in Houston.

Alissa Christine — Google review

Been to many a museum in my travels and this was one was very nice. I highly recommend doing the city pass that pays for itself with 2 or 3 museum visits when you get 5 in total. Entry way and ticketing was easy and you need a ticket even if you have the citypass. Planetarium was cool and has shows a about every half hour. Lots of shells, geodes, shark area, dinosaur area.. all pretty standard for a nat science museum. Definitely a place for the kiddos to visit.

The K Green Show — Google review

Trust me this was the best part of my visit to Houston on the city past(I don't recommend getting) just pay for this place straight up. It has 4 levels and so many Interactive Learning stations. They have exhibits for the King Tut, the planetarium shows a video about every hour. I will definitely visit again! Highly recommend it. Parking is first come first served near the front door(free). Family friendly, date friendly, something for everyone. You will not be disappointed!!!! 10 stars if I could. Open from 9am-5pm. Plan to spend the day worth every penny spent.

LATREECE HALE — Google review

Very nice museum experience! Appreciate the artifacts and all of the exhibits. There are so many!!! Recommend taking a few hrs to see all of the floors. Wish the special exhibits were available free, but I guess they have to make a profit somewhere.

Joy Jones-Mitchell — Google review

Huge museum packed with everything you need to fill a whole day. Educational and informative with plenty of dioramas and interactive displays. It would be nice to see more on conservation and sustainability as several galleries clearly show exploitative companies and practices favourably because of their sponsorship. The permanent displays are included in the price, but frustratingly, the temporary and special exhibits require additional payments. However, the dinosaur exhibition hall is outstanding, possibly the best I've come across while travelling the world.

Museums

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is a large art museum with a collection from all over the world. It is situated in the heart of Houston and has an impressive underground tunnel connecting the two main galleries. The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens are also located close by and offer visitors a beautiful oasis to stroll around.

MC Escher exhibit is great! They have the prints but also many of the wood cuts and blocks on display.right next to them. Very interesting, I've never seen an exhibit like that. This was also my first time in the Kinder building, very impressive and fun space. More contemporary works, great flow to the museum. Fun tunnel back to the Beck building.

Sara Hull — Google review

We took advantage of going to the museum on Thursday and I realized that every Thursday is totally free, something very good for the family and large groups of friends. We park the parking lot of the museum itself but you also have the opportunity to park on the street (if you are lucky)The entrance was quite fast, no queues or waiting. I think that having the tickets already purchased makes access much easier. The place is incredible, everything is organized, clean and quite easy to follow the route. It is an excellent place to meet and enter the world of art and a Excellent idea for a date too.

Roberto Ruiz — Google review

A nice museum with three buildings connected by the underground passages. My favorite is the modern art building. You can easily spend a whole day here. Some staff near popular light fixtures seem less chill, but overall great experience here. They also have a cute cafe.

J W — Google review

Awesome experience! Amazing arts in there love how they have a little summary beside the paintings explaining into detail. I loved it definitely some interesting stuff. It is a lot of walking tho!! Be prepared. If you’re going to go with your kids be aware that they don’t touch anything because you cannot touch any of the art plus there’s always people watching. Be respectful. I do recommend! I believe it’s free on Thursdays if you don’t want to spend $ it’s perfect!

alondra xo — Google review

By far one of the most knowledgeable and enjoyable art staffs I’ve ever been around. Outside of being phenomenal sales agents, wonderful concierge and receptionists; each person you encounter will most likely have some tidbit of knowledge about the selected texts, curated production pieces and set pieces or even just history of the site and the facility. Walking into this specific MFA is both a classically endearing experience with histories most resilient and timeless works of art, but also an incredible showcase of the humans of Houston and how phenomenal they are.

Matthew Cochran — Google review

One of my favorite museums. There’s usually tours going on that you can join to learn more about the different paintings & sculptures. Thursdays they offer free GA which is nice and it’s normally not too crowded.

Caylan Johnson — Google review

Houston is lucky to have this museum. Visited from Austin while my wife was in a medical conference and I could have spent a couple days here. Several buildings packed with amazing art, and it was only $24 for an all day ticket!

Andrew Fluhr — Google review

A comprehensive, accessible and well organised exposure to the historical arc of Western fine art. Go up the escalators, take a U turn, follow the Egyptian exhibit all the way to the end, and then enter the galleries through the maroon rooms. That way, you get to see how aspects of aesthetics and content in the paintings and sculptures ebbed and flowed with time. Or, find your own sequence of experiences! Gift shop is just 🤩Thursdays free, very welcoming staff at the front desk!

Promit Moitra — Google review

Twas a beautiful museum! Many cultural arts were exhibited from all over the world! Definitely a great experience to see what cultures each country shared.I got to go there on Thursday night so I got a free entrance! I love that they do those give back to the community!A must go there especially if you like arts!Cheers 🥂

Mr. No Tengo Dinero — Google review

It’s really great to visit!!I spend 6 hours there, 3pm till close but my visit still not complete!!It because I love arts, I enjoy watching them (at least one minute each), read their description (yes, every single one of them) and watched all cinematic arts, that’s why 6 hours wasn’t enough for me.So I’ll go again next week.If I understand it rightly there’re 4 buildings of arts including the art school for us to visit.Tips: FREE general admission on every Thursday!!!

Don McMani — Google review

A great way to spend the day. Several multilevel museums connected by a tunnel. Great works from a wide array of times place and people going back to ancient Greek and Egyptian works, the master of the Renaissance and modern late period. It's a great place to spend an afternoon.

David William — Google review

I go every Thursday with my son! We always get all access tickets. It feels so full of life, and all of the volunteers are so helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend to any out of towner or anyone who loves the arts!

Josh A — Google review

Houston Museum District is a treasure. So many choices and they are all amazing. The Archeology of Silence exhibition is what I chose this time. Absolutely a must see.

Richard Allen — Google review

This place is absolutely massive. Three buildings are connected by tunnels for 11 floors of amazing art, sculptures, photography, and installations. Definitely plan for an entire day. We wondered all over the place and I know we still missed some things. Free to active military.

Jeanette — Google review

Come culture yourself and let the museum enchant you with its wide collection of art from early age to modern day, there’s something for everyone. You need more than half a day to truly take it all in, there so much to see and it’s only $24 for an all access entry. My personal favorite was the magical installation by Yayoi Kusama’s “Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity” inside the Kinder Building. There are also plenty of eating options around the area so fuel up before coming, leave and come back the same day, or work up an appetite.Oh and one more thing……wear comfortable shoes, you’ll do A LOT of walking.

Maria H — Google review

Best place to go if you are interested in art! It includes 3 buildings with 3 different topic, they are connected by elevators, so you don't have to worry about crossing the road. It took us few minutes to find parking garage, but it's all good. Make sure you are wearing a comfortable shoes, otherwise you will have hard time to finish all 3 buildings, they all have elevators, but every level is pretty big, so you will have some walking.

Paulina313 — Google review

This place is all things fine. But they are strict with trying use any type of tripod or selfie stick. The tickets were free and the time was not limited. Parking was only 10 dollars and if it wasn’t raining I would just walked to the other museums everything is close together. So this place is so big and is connected by tunnels. They have staff all over to help and direct you. A lot of sitting places. The food at the cafe is standard little high but not bad. All of the exhibits were so nice.

val chang — Google review

This is a fascinating museum. It has three buildings connected by tunnels with different kinds of art installations. The video screen installation by the main entrance was fascinating to the young and old alike. It is well worth the visit. I could have spent far more time here. The museum map does show what installations are in which galleries, so if you have a particular interest you can get there more efficiently.

Angela Loupee — Google review

I was pleasantly surprised by the collection of this museum. The mix of European art with other regions of the world really brings a balance to the perception that visitors can get in their visit. The buildings are large and don’t feel cluttered, and the artwork is well preserved. I recommend the museum thinking about a recommended visit for newcomers, or an audio guide that can give more insight into specific works (if there was one, it was not offered to us).

Oscar Fonseca — Google review

Simply Excellent! What a collection of some awesome art! This is housed in a collection of buildings connected via some beautiful tunnels.Lot of great art from all over the world. There were also some temporary exhibitions which were spectacular - the impressionist exhibit and another spectacular immersive experience by Yayoi Kusama! We visited for a couple of hours over Thanksgiving weekend and there is so much more to do at this museum. We could have easily spent another 4+ hours.Parking Tip - Park at 1144 Binz street - easy access to the Beck Building.Bag Tip - do not take your bag or even water into this museum as you will need to go to another building to drop off your bag - not worth it.Food tip - we didn’t eat here but heard that it was expensive $$$ - lots of good eating options nearby (Fia’s Pizzeria for example is a 5 min walk. You can take the car but may need to pay for parking twice.)

Satish S — Google review

Wonderful Exhibits! The additions that have been added over the past 30 yrs are incredible. I've been visiting MHAF since I was a teen. Now, many years later, I'm simply awe struck. We live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Vacation in your own city bc there's so much to see and enjoy!

C Fam — Google review

It was better than I expected. The Museum is divided not by centuries and ages, but by Empires and countries of origin. I liked that very much.I visited during weekend, it was a bit busy, but there was no rush. Has cafeteria inside if you feel like eating.

Kuralay — Google review

Went to check out the Kinder building. Absolutely mind blowing! Such a treasure to have such an expansive and well curated collection right here in Houston Texas. Free entry on Thursdays is just the cherry on top!I highly recommend this world class institution to anyone who lives in or visits Houston

Matthew Carrizales — Google review

Went for a special birthday brunch for a dear friend, and we all had the four course option. Everything was beautifully plated and balanced not only visually but in flavor as well. A great choice for a special occasion or for a special treat.

Yaneth Garcia — Google review

Rich exhibits of various time periods. Very nice campuses spread across multiple blocks. There are tunnels connecting different buildings that's very convenient. Will definitely come back in the future.

Sally W — Google review

I've been in this museum several times, visiting non permanent expositions, and always is a treat. Always when I am done with the non permanent exposition, I reserved some time to wander around all the different permanent expositions and every single time I really enjoy it. If you are an art lover, you must visit this museum.

Parisltm 21 — Google review

Super rude staff forcing us to leave the museum because they want to lock up early. I’ve been to museums in dozens of countries and never had one close up so rudely. We were informed at 16:49 that the museum was closing soon and there were 5 min left before making our way to the exit. Ok, fine that’s normal. We walk to take a quick look at the remaining exhibit but are told we cannot see it, we need to leave. I look at my watch it’s still 10 min before closing… but they don’t care. They basically hound us and follow us out of the building. As you can see from my picture we are out of the museum by 16:53… I wonder if this is how staff are trained to interact with guests? The art itself is good, the experience was poor.

Travis Hull — Google review

Such a wonderful museum. The Kehinde Wiley exhibit was undoubtedly my favorite exhibit. It took us a few hours to see the whole museum, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There are a lot of other museums and art work to experience in the area too!

Ja'Nyla — Google review

Visited on a Sunday afternoon and we really enjoyed the exhibits. The staff at the front desk and throughout the several buildings were all kind and welcoming. There were not many people in the area or so it seemed because we were able to take our time and not feel crowded / rushed. Overall would return and continue exploring as we did not get to view the entire museum due to time.

Megan Costella — Google review

Fantastic collection of pieces covering hundreds of years of history.Loved the descriptions of each room on the wall to help give some background information on pieces on display.Whilst the collection being spread across 3 buildings is a bit cumbersome - having to wander between them was actually very nice and added to the experience.

Nature & Parks

Historical landmark

Houston's largest park, Buffalo Bayou Park offers nature lovers a variety of outdoor activities like hiking and biking as well as a skate park. With views of the Houston skyline, the park is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Beautiful park right in the middle of Houston, perfect for visitors & residents alike! Full of trails, scenic views, pedestrian walk paths, a dog park, gardens, and plenty of space to chill out. Definitely recommend stopping by

Marcus Castillo — Google review

Nice and shaded trails for walking, really close to downtown! We parked in a free parking lot where you can keep your car up to 3 hours. There were plenty of parking spots available (late afternoon on a Tuesday). The pedestrian bridges are safe and well-maintained. Paths were clear of debris and saw many people out walking and running. Path under the bat bridge is really cool. Would return for more fresh air the next time I'm in Houston.

Luis Resendez — Google review

Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston is a sprawling urban park that offers a diverse range of recreational activities and natural beauty. Situated along the banks of the Buffalo Bayou, this 160-acre park has become a popular destination for both locals and touristsOne of the standout features of Buffalo Bayou Park is its picturesque landscapes. The park offers a mix of open green spaces, lush gardens, and wooded areas, providing a refreshing escape from the urban environment. The beautifully maintained trails and pathways wind their way through the park, offering visitors the opportunity to explore and appreciate the natural surroundings. One of the highlights of Buffalo Bayou Park is its extensive trail system, which spans approximately five miles. Whether you prefer walking, jogging, or cycling, the well-maintained trails cater to all types of outdoor enthusiasts. As you make your way along the trails, you'll be treated to scenic views of the bayou, lush vegetation, and even Houston's impressive skyline.Another notable feature of the park is the variety of recreational amenities it offers. From paddleboarding and kayaking on the bayou to picnicking and birdwatching, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The park also boasts an outdoor performance space, dog parks, and even a skate park, ensuring that visitors of all ages and interests have plenty of options to engage in.The park's commitment to public art is also worth mentioning. Throughout Buffalo Bayou Park, you'll come across various art installations and sculptures that add an element of creativity and cultural enrichment to the outdoor experience. The park features well-designed amenities such as restrooms, water fountains, and convenient parking areas, ensuring that visitors have a comfortable experience while exploring the park. One consideration to keep in mind is the park's popularity, especially during weekends and holidays. As one of Houston's most popular outdoor destinations, it can get quite crowded during peak times. However, with its vast expanse and numerous trails, it is usually possible to find a quieter spot away from the main areas.

John West — Google review

Visiting this park was a serene experience! The sprawling trails offer delightful walks and biking opportunities amidst stunning natural vistas and captivating sculptures. The park has a bat colony, skate park, water works park and cistern with light displays.Ample parking adds convenience, but weekends can be crowded. It is quite impossible to get parking close to the event you are going. Nonetheless, the panoramic skyline view is worth it! A must-visit for nature and art enthusiasts alike.

Tasnim Ara Islam — Google review

Not from Houston and loved this park. Did nearly 4 miles along the bayou with the dogs with great views of the city skyline and some nice art along the way. Paved and appreciated the pedestrian only sections of the trail. Some shade and some nice mini-park areas and gardens as well. Very clean, well-maintained and felt safe (on a Friday morning). Parked near the trail and paid $1 for 3 hours. Well done, Houston!

N and C Farrell — Google review

So refreshing to get outside in nature with sidewalks. This was my first time urban hiking and I really enjoyed it. There are so many things to see, places to stop, and peace to be felt here. I’d definitely pack bug spray and lots of water on a hot day. There were ample amounts of trash and recycling bins as well as water fountains. I think I’ll be making regular trips here.

Ciara Harding — Google review

A wonderful park that is open to the public. Long paved trails. Only a little tree coverage, most areas are very open to full sun. There's volleyball pits, kids playground, and lots of open space for picnics. You can walk, or ride a bike. You can also see people cayaking down the bayou. Metered parking near the park. Wheelchair accessible, and pet friendly as well!!!

Fy L — Google review

This was the very first park I visited when I first moved to Houston. 3 years ago. I loved this park.. a nice trail great for hiking and running with a beautiful scenery. Very busy. Nice park to go for a walk and enjoy nature. This is a nice hiking trail, very well maintained. Awesome place to get out in nature but stay basically in town and There’s plenty of paid parking, which is also very close/right next to the trail. Very easy to access. Lots of people walking, running cycling, skating, you name it! And Is Dog friendly.

Mari Almz — Google review

Highly recommend this park. Beautiful trails. Overall pretty well lit. Very romantic at night for a stroll. Parking can be a challenge. Don’t park at spot park not great connecting into the bayou.I would recommend the main parking if you can .

M T — Google review

A hidden gem not far away from DT Houston. The hiking trails are along the bayou. Parking is limited so it is best if you are able to find residential side street and walk a little to the park.

Ed C — Google review

This place is AMAZING. So much green space and so many open grassy areas, plus public art, bridges, views of the river and downtown, and other attractions! My favorite area, and it's a popular one due to the views, is Eleanor Tinsley park. Great for biking, running, picnics, hanging out, rollerblading, Frisbee, volleyball, walking... Anything! A must visit. You can rent bikes and kayaks as well. There are bathrooms in the Lost Lake area. I've heard parking is tough but I biked in. Paths are lighted at night!

Christopher Roman — Google review

What a great spot to run, walk or bike. It’s great paths along the bayou and it’s well manicured and clean. It’s great that the city has this green space.

Darrell Nabers — Google review

Great wide trails for bikes and pedestrians. Clean, safe, beautiful. Great dog park by Wortham fountain. Parking challenging unless you go early or park aways away and walk.

Marie Proznick — Google review

This is one of the best parks in Houston. I walk it almost every day and always find something new to look at. It is worth walking the full loop and seeing all of the work they’ve done to restore and protect the environment.

Tyler Self — Google review

This is the best part of Houston — an absolute gem. On the bayou, you will find people walking dogs, taking strolls, exercising, having picnics, and more. There are 2 dog parks, one for smaller dogs and one for bigger dogs. There is a public restroom located at the end of the trail near the city. A water fountain is located at the far end of the park, near Kirby drive (there may be others). There are both walk paths and bike paths, and the trail totals roughly 5 miles from beginning to end. I love this park because there are always people around walking the trails and they are friendly enough to smile or wave as you pass. There is so much activity on the weekends that it gives you energy to get out and move. When I walk the trail, I will typically pass at least 2 people speaking different languages, often Spanish and sometimes French or Italian. There are very fit men (and women) playing soccer on Saturday mornings. There are beautiful people taking wedding, pregnancy, or quinceañera photos. There is a small botanical garden. There are plaques all around explaining the different trees along the trail and their extraordinary features, and people who come just to observe the plants and trees themselves. It is a wonderful park and a quite impressive development right in the heart of Houston. If I ever leave Houston, I will never forget walking and running these trails on Saturday mornings. It has been my favorite place to live thus far.

Emma LeMasters — Google review

It's a wonderful place to visit. This was my third visit in last one year and each TY time I enjoyed differently.Today was chill cold but I spend good time to capture good images from different angles, it's a learning process by using this Park with lot views in near sourrangs. This park have lot of activities to do for all ages, really it's a nice place to visit.

Sheraz Ahmed (Your Sir Jee) — Google review

Gorgeous park along Buffalo bayou from Memorial Park to downtownFeaturing separate paved bike and walking paths, Buffalo bayou is a staple for Houstonians who want to experience the outdoors without leaving the city. Paths are well maintained and mostly shaded with water stations, restaurants benches. The park also includes volleyball courts, dog parks, picnic areas, memorials, etc.

Very pleasant 2.3 mile park along Buffalo Bayou that includes pedestrian and biking trails on both sides of the Bayou, loads of green space, majestic Houston oak trees, a fascinating bat colony(!) under Waugh Bridge, a huge dog park, interesting and unique playgrounds for kids, a skate park, and an amphitheater, among other things. What a great resource and public space!

Nice park to walk, jog, run, etc. It was very clean. They have some intriguing artwork. You can stay until sunset to watch the bats come up from under the bridge. Amazing sight to see and you’ll see a lot of locals gather to watch it together. Sufficient amount of parking, it was easy to find a spot.

My experience at this park was disappointing. We paid for parking, but received a parking ticket anyway for $70. We paid for 3 hours worth of parking, but we were not even there for a full hour. When we asked the parking officer why we received a $70 ticket when we paid for parking, she said that the parking meters have a sign that says no parking, reserved parking. When I looked at the physical meter, I saw the sign, but the parking signs where they direct you to the app did not have any notice on them. There was also no sign in front of the parking lot. When I paid for the parking through the Houston Parking app, I did not get any notification that we weren’t allowed to park there and it allowed me to pay anyway. The parking attendant was very short and rude when we were trying to understand why we received a $70 parking ticket when there really wasn’t sufficient signage and we paid to park there. The parking attendant said “if you have an issue take it to court.” The parking lot was full of people, and all the cars near us had parking tickets on them. Because of this, I will probably never want to come back to this park. The park itself is nice, but now I’m not comfortable coming here because of the possibility of getting another $70 ticket. In the photos, you can see the sign we used to pay and you can see the meter far away from the sign. Most people pay online/through the app or by phone, so they should’ve put a notice on these signs rather than on the pay meter far away.

History. The area now known as Buffalo Bayou Park was earmarked for parkland since the early 1900s. Throughout the first half of the 20th century, the City of Houston was gifted or outright purchased tracts of land around the Bayou with the intention of creating a city park.If you happen to be In Houston this is one of the spots that you should visit and have a relaxing walk; enjoying the nature and his multiple colors.Rejuvenate your soul.Join me on this path.Ivan Varela

Park

The McGovern Centennial Gardens is a 445-acre urban park in Houston, Texas that features themed gardens, a sculpture promenade, and a 30 ft. mount with city views. The conservancy manages the gardens for the people of Houston and they include a rose garden, an arid dryland garden, a leafy woodland garden, and recently introduced interactive family garden.

Nice Garden that's a part of the collection at Hermann Park. Came on an early Sunday morning, it was very quiet and not crowded at all. You enter to a nice set of head sculptures before arriving to the Mount. The Mount is a nice spiral walk up a little hill that has a waterfall until you reach the top. Once at the top, you have a nice view of the Garden, but also of other parts of Hermann Park. The Garden had a nice vegetable and flower garden you could casually walk around. There is also a pavilion where looks like they offer free classes to the public. This was a nice free Garden to see how to properly grow various vegetables and flowers.

This park sits across the street from the Houston Natural Science Museum. Outside the Garden was a cart selling ice cream and parking. As seen in the photos the garden is beautifully landscaped and there is plenty of seating to sit and enjoy in different spots throughout the garden. Lots of spots to sit and eat a meal in fact there are even tables, vending machines and restrooms on the far end of the garden. A lot of the garden is in the open sun but there are many shady areas to help stay cool. The fountains and other water elements are gorgeous and relaxing to watch. This garden would be a great place photos.

I’m not sure why not many local people suggest visiting this place. It’s quite beautiful and you can certainly make a day out of it walking around the place with lots of flowers and plants and small gardens (Japanese garden) nearby. Definitely would recommend visiting this place if you are in Houston

Lovely garden area located in/near Hermann Park and near the natural science museum. The big observation mound is there with a lovely water feature and plenty of seating around. Rose garden is near by as well with beautiful Asian inspired pagoda. You have to exit on the ends so it forces you to walk its entirety and there is a cafe at one end. Lots of wedding parties out taking photos and couple doing photo shoots.

The park was so beautiful and the staff was friendly. My daughter was curious what one of the people was doing and the worker explained to her how they grow their plants.I’m sad the fountain wasn’t on when we went but it was still all so beautiful to walk around and see. There are some fruit and vegetable gardens that were so awesome to look atI highly recommend checking this place out!

Beautiful and peaceful even in Extreme Heat!We parked in the parking lot next to the entrance to get to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was quite a walk in extreme heat but this garden made it a little more bearable along the way! There is a pavilion with chairs where one could sit down and enjoy the view. I imagine early in the morning or late afternoon would be a very nice place to walk.Bring sunscreen and water in the summer!

A great and beautiful place to visit. Open to the public and free. Visited after going the the Natural science museum right next door so it’s a great stop. They also have free 3 hour parking which is a bonus so you can avoid paying for parking and visit the museum. They have chairs and shaded area near the parking lot entrance which provides a great place to relax and take in the view.

If you love plants, this is the place for you. It’s one of my favorites in Houston and where we bring our guests. The gardens are beautiful, peaceful, and packed with flowers and plants to explore. There’s a rose garden, an arid garden with agaves and yuccas, and even a veggie/herb garden. We love strolling around and identifying new varieties. It’s dog friendly too with a pup watering station by the arid garden. Even in the blistering summer heat, the garden is worth checking out. Best of all, entrance is free!

It's like the Botanical Gardens, an essential part of Texas history, died, and this is its great-grandchild. :( The white building is no more. There is a secret garden behind the massive brushes. Many are poorly marked with handwritten tags, some with QR codes. When I look at Dr. Jack. Schull's vegetable garden, it makes me sad that it's fallen to neglect. Rosemary, kale, mint, and other herbs are in great shape. Please note that they do want volunteers. My photo gives their details. My guest and I appreciated the serenity of the walk and waterfall. I'm thankful for the no music rule. This place is exceptionally clean and mostly unpaved, so don't come in dress heels. It was a well needed escape, and we even had time to walk to the planetarium afterward.Google wants me to note about restrooms. Yes, they were spotless. I think they were dog friendly because I saw a few fur babies.

A magical botanical garden in the heart of the museum district. An oasis of cal, with a mound offering 360 degree views of the gardens below. The symmetrical plantings along the water feature are a must see. The use of different plants and grasses will make this a spot to revisit and watch the seasons change.

Note tho that if you’re specifically coming only for pictures with a professional photographer, ur photographer needs a permit otherwise if it’s just for you and personal use you should be good 👍🏽, continuing though you can also have picnics here, come walk your dog on leash ofc, or just have a seat and take everything in on their chairs and tables they have in the entrance. The scenery here is amazing the flowers are beautiful and you will get to see cool birds, butterfly’s. Definitely 5 starts.

Museums

The Menil Collection is a privately owned art museum located in the heart of Houston, Texas. It has been open to the public since 1987 and contains an impressive collection spanning from the Paleolithic era to present day. The museum features works by some of the biggest names in art, including Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, and Mark Rothko. Despite its small size, the Menil Collection is one of the most comprehensive collections in North America.

This was a very pleasant surprise. We intended to spend an hour or two with this museum snd instead spent most of the day including having lunch at the Menil Bistro. The Collection is housed in several buildings each thematic in content. The exhibits are very well lit and grandly spaced so you are not assaulted by walls of art. The buildings were design to house the collection so there was an added architectural element to the exhibits. Don’t miss the Rothko Chapel. We give it four and one half clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale

Most Houstonians who are in the mood for a museum experience will make their way to the Houston Museum District. There are, of course, lots of great museums in this district but there is another museum perfect for lovers of art that is located elsewhere. That would be the Menil collection, close to the University of St. Thomas. The bulk of the attractions of the Menil Collection are found in the main building, a single- story art museum that can be walked through in about one to two hours. You will find art from well- known folks such as Andy Warhol but the majority of the art will be from artists you have likely never heard of before. Besides the main building, there are a few smaller buildings across the street, housing more art. This is a quiet art museum and one cool thing about it is that the focus is on the art and not on learning about the art. What I mean is that, with each display, there is limited information- namely, the artist, year it was produced, etc. With other museums, there is often additional information about each work of art and you feel compelled to stop and read. The Menil Collection is different. It limits the information so that you can spend more time looking at the artwork. There is no charge to visit the Menil Collection, and this is certainly one of its appeals. However, you need to be careful where you park. There are several places along the street that look like they are available for parking, but they are not and the area police patrol will be quick to hit you with a fine. There is a bistro and a bookstore, too, for food and books to further your education. The Menil Collection is different from other art museums. It’s different in a good way and while it doesn’t house a ton of fine art, the abstract, three- dimensional, and contemporary art you will find here are certainly deserving of a look and you really can’t argue with free admission. I recommend a visit if you find yourself in the vicinity.

This museum is cute and just big enough to do in an afternoon stroll or to take your child and learn to appreciate art worth just enough people and a grassy run around to later release the energy. They also had a yoga class not part of the museum but it was going on when we arrived. What a great way to start your day! We made reservations for a Thursday tour and we walked right in and it was free! I have a greater appreciation for Thursday’s because modern museums are free Thursday’s and having a homeschooled child makes planning her well that much easier.

Wonderful (free!) art museumThe Menil has long been a staple of Houston’s art scene and boasts a wide collection of art across four structures: the main building, drawing institute, Cy Twombly gallery, and Dan Flavin Installation at Richmond Hall. There’s both permanent and revolving art displays. The peaceful grounds are perfect for a picnic, dog walk, or jog.No tickets required unless special occasion.

Jorge and Vera were the only nice people. Everyone else was absolutely rude. The staff needs better training on how to treat people. Just because we look young does not mean we are reckless. We have respect towards art, sadly, the staff does not have respect, rather prejudice. Some pieces are also full of dust and the glass protecting them has spider excrement and webs. Please fix this.

Always a great experience. Love this free museum. A great opportunity for everyone to enjoy a part of history with the changing art & exhibits. The entire area is beautiful, from the museum, the park, bookstore & bistro. One could easily spend an afternoon just exploring & relaxing.

If you are in Houston, this is a must to-visit. A donation based space, full with gems of contemporary art. I stumbled upon my favourite Magritte piece, unaware it was there. Loved it!

Mariana Cadenas — Google review

The Menil Collection, a private museum nestled in Houston, offers an incredibly unique art experience. What sets this boutique museum apart is its unconventional approach to admission – on a donation-only basis. Upon entry, visitors are encouraged to contribute an amount they feel comfortable with, and while the suggested donation is $20 per person, the emphasis lies on making art accessible to all.The museum itself is a hidden gem, featuring a vast and extraordinary collection of art. Its exterior may appear unassuming, but step inside, and you're met with a spacious, calming environment that exudes artistic charm. The relaxed ambiance invites visitors to explore and appreciate the carefully curated pieces. The staff at Menil Collection add to the overall positive experience. Their friendliness and helpfulness contribute to the welcoming atmosphere, enhancing the enjoyment of the artistic journey. It's evident that they are passionate about sharing the beauty within the museum. An intriguing aspect is the occasional unveiling of a permanent collection collective. During these moments, visitors are kindly asked not to take photos, respecting the privacy of the artists and collectors involved. This decision adds an air of exclusivity to the experience, encouraging patrons to immerse themselves fully in the art without distractions. Moreover, Mio Collection keeps things fresh with a series of different exhibitions that change regularly. This commitment to diverse and evolving displays ensures that each visit offers something new and exciting. In essence, Menil Collection stands out not only for its impressive and rare art pieces but also for its commitment to accessibility, privacy, and a continuously evolving exhibition landscape. It's a haven for art enthusiasts seeking a unique and relaxing artistic escape in the heart of Houston.

The building is absolutely stunning, architecturally speaking. The art does rotate but I got to see a Warhol and a Pollock. I felt at peace inside. People are respectful and quiet. There’s not a lot of rooms so it’s not an all day affair. It’s also free! You simply need to register a time when you want to go and an online ticket is generated. I definitely want to go again.

Christopher Malmevik — Google review

I visited the museum for a few hours, everything about this gallery is great for the art lovers! Free admission, good abstract pieces and even a Picasso! Only complaint is the staff, they make the experience a bit uncomfortable with how closely they creepily follow you around. Puts a bit of a damper on the creative atmosphere. FYI: Make sure to make a reservation on their website before showing up.

Absolutely one of my favorite places! I admit that I love a museum. But rarely have I found one I enjoyed as much as this one and without spending a single penny! Yes... free! Outdoor Activities

The Houston Zoo is a must-see for all animal lovers, with over 6,000 animals in habitats that are more authentic for the animals and more immersive for visitors. The zoo is currently undergoing a massive renovation project that will complete in 2022.

I recently visited the Houston Zoo, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The first thing that struck me was its sheer size - it’s massive! There’s so much to explore and discover. From the moment we entered, we were impressed by the wide range of activities tailored for all ages. It was a delightful experience for everyone in our group, from the little ones to the adults. The zoo’s well-designed layout made navigation a breeze, and we loved how every exhibit seemed to transport us to a different part of the world. The variety of animal species on display was truly impressive, and it was heartening to see the care and attention given to the animals’ well-being.One standout feature was the fun activities scattered throughout the zoo. Whether it was interactive exhibits, animal shows, or educational talks, there was never a dull moment. It really enhanced our visit and made it a day filled with joy and learning. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and provide helpful insights about the animals. Plus, the cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities were top-notch.Overall, the Houston Zoo is an excellent destination for families, friends, or even solo visitors looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of wildlife and nature. I highly recommend this zoo, and I can’t wait to visit again!

We went during the week and our reservation time was for 9:00 am so it was easy to park and get in the zoo. The later you go, parking becomes a nightmare, so keep that in mind. We had a great visit. I love that it opens at 9 because it gives the kids and I time to enjoy the zoo before it’s lunch and nap time. We were lucky and the animals were out and about that day. The other guests there were respectful or space and taking turns. Some people wore masks, some did not. The only place I was nervous about the closeness was in the reptile house, so we hurried through and continued seeing the animals that are outside. I do wish there were more bathrooms along the way. Seeing the zoo with 2 little ones, someone always has to use the bathroom, ALWAYS. It was a great trip to the zoo. I know we could have easily spent more time there.

It was our first time visiting here. It was such a great zoo. Plenty of shade. The water pond in the middle of the zoo when you walked in was beautiful. We got to see the new exhibit. It was awesome! We rented one of the motorized wheelchairs for my mom. It was like $45 I think for the day. It had a canopy and basket for items. It was my moms first timing using a motorized one and she loved it. My family loved this zoo. We bought water bottles here for $5 each and then refilled them with the refill stations. We would love to visit again if we get the chance.

Great zoo! Fun and easy walk throughout the park. Animals seemed happier than most zoos I’ve been to. Elephants were playing. Be prepared to walk if you don’t get there early for a parking spot. I recommend skipping the hassle of trying to find a spot and just parking at the history museum garage and taking the awesome stroll through Hermann Park. Which is beautiful!

We went on Thanksgiving Day after we had dinner. There were more people than I had expected but it was still a relatively small crowd. There were so many different locations and variations of lights that everything felt fresh and the fake snow was a really great touch. They had little smore sections and my kids really enjoyed that. This is definitely a tradition we want to keep up in future years.

Really enjoyed this zoo. All the animals are super active. Make sure before you get there, you purchase tickets online as they do not have a ticket counter, but if you didn't, you can scan a QR code and purchase at the gate. We didn't get to go through the whole zoo, so im sure we will be back to see it all. The area around has recently been renovated, so if you just want to walk around the park outside of the zoo, it looks really nice. Also around it is some museums which I will for sure go see next trip.

The Houston zoo is a very nice zoo. We've been going since children and all the updates they've done over the years definitely add to the experience. It's always clean and tidy with great locations for snacks and beverages. The staff and keepers are all awesome and very knowledgeable of their respective exhibits. There are also a ton of volunteers here too which is awesome. We've recently decided to get a membership because it's really nice to just be able to pop in any time you like for a stroll. It's like a stroll in the park but full of lovely and exotic animals.I used to love seeing the familiar white alligator in the reptile exhibit but they've since relocated him to a nature reserve south of Houston. The zoo can get really busy on the weekends and I would highly recommend getting here before 10am otherwise you'll be driving circles trying to find a parking spot.

BOO ZOO! One of our favorite times of year to visit the zoo. Great experience for the family as always. Parking was not awful today but I will say the last 5 times we’ve tried to go on Friday or Saturday we haven’t found a parking spot. Definitely would recommend going during the week and earlier in the day if at all possible. But once you get inside it’s a really great zoo! Tons of updates have happened since we’ve moved here nearly 10 years ago and I feel like each time we go there are always improvements happening to make the zoo even better!

Be careful, it may be too hot and humid to visit during the summer as we did, but the experience itself was pretty good. I am an optimist, so I just imagined being on a safari in the jungles or something 🤣But I would not recommend going there during excessive heat; otherwise, you will have a mixed experience of joy and suffering.Be prepared to pay extra 9 bucks for three salad leaves if you want to get close to the giraffes 😬Not all animals were there, especially some big cats and rhinos. But maybe they are just smarter than us and stayed in the shadows 😅Overall, it was a very cool and educational journey!

I love the zoo. Their newest exhibit, the Galapagos Islands, is awesome. I go to the zoo frequently, I go both with friends and alone. I enjoy the exhibits greatly, my favorite is the primates. I can sit for a very long time watching them, and I believe that watching these animals has made me care about them/their natural habitats more. Some animal exhibits, notably the older ones, are less fun to look at. The big cats, like the tiger, are in pretty small spaces and end up pacing back and forth endlessly. The seals were in a container like this, without a lot of space, but they were recently moved to a fantastic space with the creation of the Galapagos exhibit. The Houston zoo is pretty good at keeping the animals in healthy environments, and I see them constantly working to make things better for the animals. The employees are very kind and many will stop and talk to me at length about the history or preferences of animals in the zoo. I love the big pretzels they sell at the zoo, even though they are $8.

The 1st Tuesday of the month is FREE DAY! My friends and I were lucky to snag some tickets and enjoy a wonderful day of exploration at the zoo.First off the restrooms here are so CLEAN. Thank you. I'm always scared to use public restrooms in tourist spots but they do such a good job of keeping this zoo sanitary.Tons of families, couples, and groups of friends viewing the animals. Most animals had a buddy in their enclosure so it was nice to see the efforts they put in the make sure the animals aren't alone.Very easy to navigate with the maps and arrows all over the park. Tons of restrooms and free water refill. It's nice they let you bring outside food and drinks as well as a cooler! We finished the zoo in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Perfect amount of time and lots of shaded areas as well as indoor AC viewing.Lovely little zoo. I'd bring friends and family here!

Great zoo to visit if you are in Houston! Lots of exhibits and fun things to look at! The entry price is reasonable and we got the extra ticket for the dinosaur attraction that is seasonal. Great for small children. Lots of walking, but plenty of places to sit and rest. There are food and snack options but a little pricey and just ok. I think they could expand the food options tremendously and probably make a killing with revenue.Things to consider: the zoo is located in the museum district just a short walk from the natural history museum which is another great place to visit, but parking is terrible. Get there early or be prepared to have to drive around quite a bit to find parking. You can park at the museum parking garage but that runs about $30. I like to take a ride share if possible. Traffic is bad everywhere in Houston so it is what it is.

Me and my kiddos went two days ago on Tuesday and had a blast! Lovely spring weather and not many people in the zoo despite the parking lot being full! Guess most people were in the park next to it. Lots of the animals were out and moving around which was super awesome and one of the gorillas even came up to the window to say hi to us! Didn’t catch his name though

Michelle K — Google review

The Zoo is always a blast, downside to the zoo is the parking but it really isn’t that bad just don’t try to park right in front closest to the entrance gates. We arrived at noon on a Sunday and realized most of the animals are asleep at this time. So I’d recommend going earlier. There was a car-line to get in since it was a weekend and parking lot was crowded however the line to enter the Zoo was basically empty (we buy our ticket online 1000% suggest). We also shared a nice picnic at the park outside the zoo near the train station, beautiful shade and perfect weather. 10/10 Experience!

I LOVE this Zoo! The membership price is so worth it if you live in Houston or the burbs. Two visits and you’ve already paid for the memberships- totally a steal! The exhibits are well done. The animals are in very beautiful habitats and that makes me happy. The staff really takes care of them. Their entire motto is “See Them. Save Them” and I love that they really work to protect and save all of these beautiful creatures. In December they do Houston Zoo Lights and it’s phenomenal! The weather is usually very enjoyable and the lights are spectacular. They even have photos with Santa which is super cute. My one piece of advice is GO EARLY. Parking gets insane on the weekends and you can spend 45 minutes trying to park. Also, bring a stroller! It’s a ton of walking! If you go in summer, bring lots of water, snacks and even a fan! You will love going here!

What a terrific zoo! The main reason for yesterday's visit was to see the new Galapagos Island exhibit and it did not disappoint! It was amazing and we got to hear them talk about the sea lions and watch them get treats. We also heard about the exhibit itself and all the features it has. Beyond the sea lion pool was a wonderful exhibit of other island wildlife. So much fun to wander through and see the other animals and sea life. The rest of the zoo is also a winner! Not only are the exhibits very well done, but there is plenty of seating to relax and just enjoy the environment. The primates, elephants, giraffes, and birds were my favorite. The landscaping adds to the overall feel. Well done!

I always love going here! There's so much to see! I also love how they're adding new stuff and fixing things. They added the underground seal exhibit. Which kind of scared me because being under the water made me feel like I was drowning! But that's not a bad thing, I'm just scared of water haha. It was so cool seeing the seals swim above you! This is a perfect place to bring family or friends or just yourself. The workers are always willing to help and on a weekday it's not as busy as it would be on the weekend. There are plenty of bathrooms with air conditioning. And there's a lot of different places you can refill a bottle of water. However, I wish the refill of water areas had actually cooled cold water but at least they're available for free. One of my favorite parts is near the petting zoo, there's this silly cow there that loves to have its neck pet! The only thing I don't really care about the zoo is definitely the drive there, but that's not the zoo's fault. Sometimes parking can be a little difficult. Other than that this is a perfect place to go!

Over all pretty good experience but definitely could use some water sprayers and stronger fansGetting the city pass would be the only way to come here and they still can have issues trying to check in with those too so just a fyi. And if it's too hot all the cats won't be available and other animals and no warnings when you enter the zoo. The sea lions where entertainment but no good shade and there was only two out of nine out during my visit.

It was Labor Day weekend when we visited this zoo. It was a super hot day so like the humans, the animals probably were trying to get some relief too, so many of the animals were not as active. Best to go early in the morning… bring an umbrella for shade and a portable fan. I like that there are many indoor exhibits peppered throughout the zoo to get some air conditioning relief! Lol. We loved the Galapagos exhibit. Overall it was a nice zoo. Easy to redeem Houston city pass. My only suggestion, the flow of the zoo was at times confusing to navigate without a map. Clearer signage would be helpful in certain parts. Would love to visit in the fall during the cooler months.

Just as awesome as I remembered it, maybe better. Came on a Tuesday afternoon to avoid the huge crowds and it was the best idea ever. Very lightly people-y and only one or two exhibits closed for remodel. Had a delicious everything pretzel and enjoyed the relatively cool day with my husband looking at all the awesome animals. Couldn't be a better day in my book.

Alexis Genco (Diabinha) — Google review

Nice to visit when the weather is cool, (we cane in December)! It seemed most all the animals were out & moving around which made it such an enjoyable experience. We had a few friends with us who had never been, so that was neat! They had all the Christmas light stuff out too, which is a great experience if you have a chance to go. But, it was neat getting to see it during the day!

The Houston Zoo was one of the best attractions we experienced while visiting Houston. It is a beautiful and clean zoo with plenty of shade and places to rest . Great variety of animals to see. We loved the elephants , giraffes, Gorillas , and zebras just to name a few. A great place for all ages to enjoy !

Kelley Leach — Google review

Such a wonderful zoo for a fun family outing when the weather is nice and cool. The new Galapagos Islands exhibit is awesome! You might have to wait in line for a few minutes but it's so worth the wait. Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle, there are refilling stations. The cost for water and food is very high as expected but the cafe does have some tasty options. I suggest bringing a backpack with snacks so you can have a picnic by the lake in the adjacent Herman Park or at one of many shaded picnic benches throughout the zoo.

Surprisingly great experience. A lot of different animals and well organized sections. Staffs were friendly and informative. Dinosaur area was not worth it in all honesty but I guess okay if you have kids. If not, I recommend skipping. Otherwise great zoo!!

My husband and I went for our anniversary while the kiddos were at school for the day. It was a good little day trip. It’s very well shaded and has a few little water things to help cool down. We loved the elephant enclosure!

We travel the country and go to a lot of zoos. This one is in our top 3 of favorites. It is well laid out and easy to navigate. They are so many animals, we can not think of anything we didn't see! Favorites were the giraffes and elephants. I went straight for the sloth to get a pic for my grandson, and he was in a corner, so the pic wasn't that great. We went back 3 hrs later to see if he had moved, and nope, he was in the same spot! We had a great time!

We recently went Easter weekend, jammed packed but overall experience was ok, I haven't been in 2 years and they had an awesome literally cool underground tunnel with the aquarium going over you. I thought that area was super nice... it's the 1st exhibit on your right side when you walk in. I always enjoy the Zoo there. It's beautiful 😍 and an awesome workout 💪 literally hours of walking.

Veronica Hernandez — Google review

Had a great time here! The exhibits were all very well maintained and the facilities were very clean.Lots of free parking nearby.Came back for Zoo light and they were so amazing. Best lights I've been to yet.

What a great zoo experience. Probably my favorite so far in Texas. What I noticed that was a big difference from other zoos is they had more benches along the way to sit and watch the animals and more bathrooms! Both of which are very helpful when you're a mom! There was also a lot of canopy shade which helped ease the heat and made for an overall better experience. I did find some of the signs/map a bit difficult to navigate but sometimes you just have to go with the flow. We especially enjoyed the kids interactive stuff at the meerkat area, aquarium etc. The only part I could say I did not enjoy was the Gorilla area. It was so over crowded with people looking into plexi glass room at the "playing gorillas" it honestly reminded me of something out of a Planet of the Apes movie. I rated this zoo a 5 because of the family element, actual care of the zoo (well kept), amount of animals and interactive activities, and rest stops and bathrooms (which for any family is very helpful). The surrounding park is very nice too. P.S. Parking is awful, good luck.

Michelle Young — Google review

This is definitely a family favorite. It’s a very clean zoo. I feel like they have a variety of animals.Parking is free. Be aware that parking on some days might be tough. It gets very heavily visited on those holidays, and the traffic in and out could take awhile. Be patient. There are a variety of activities beyond the animal exhibits like train ride, merry-go-round and playground.I’d recommend getting the family pass so you can take your time visiting a little bit at a time.

Sherman On — Google review

Always a long wait time to enter and if you go on a weekend good luck finding a parking space. I do like that they let you bring in your own food and refreshments which is unusual for businesses now a days. Animals are pretty much what you expect to see at the zoo. Go prepared, it’s a lot of walking especially for smaller children. They do rent out strollers if you don’t have one.

Alondra Garcia — Google review

Fun zoo prices aren’t too high fun for the family and even for a date. The animals are easy to see and don’t have to spend your all time searching for them. Information and educational. OK loved it. Holiday lights is a little boring but fun experience at least once I like the reptile house nice selection of snakes and spiders. I haven’t seen the new Galapagos exhibit yet, but I’m excited to go soon to experience.

Rice University is known for its engineering and science programs and its beautiful campus. The campus regularly earns the Tree Campus USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, adding to the picturesque setting.

The institution is greatly accessible as there is a huge parking lot dedicated for visitors. The architecture is breathtaking. The students here are very nice.

UYEN KHANH Tran — Google review

What a wonderful experience! The campus is the ideal place to take a stroll along the trees and appreciate the architecture. The arches were among my favorite! The university has a lot of places to explore like the Chapel, the library, the gardens and the many sitting areas to just enjoy the view! I Highly recommend it whether you are a local or someone visiting Houston!

Maritza Ortega — Google review

Beautiful campus close to downtown Houston and Houston Medical Center. Lots of oak tree lined walking and jogging paths for students, visitors, and neighbors to use. Parking on campus can be a challenge and is expensive if not staying a while, caps out at $12 for a day but roughly $5 an hour others.

I don't go to school here but it's a very beautiful campus and it's nice to walk around. The buildings are very cool to look at. Campus is close to to a park in downtown Houston that is also a great place.

The beautiful campus is a nice place to take a stroll in the early morning or late afternoon. In the evening, the water fountains are beautifully illuminated, and so is the interesting installation "Twilight Epiphany" Skyspace by James Turrell.

Space Center Houston is a popular tourist attraction in the United States that focuses on educating visitors about all eras of U.S. space travel. The center offers exhibits, tours and attractions that allow visitors to learn more about space exploration and the cutting-edge technology used in space missions.

Fascinating place filled with an immense amount of knowledge and information! Whether you’re a space enthusiast or not, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy. The facility is neatly organized and laid out with various sections and areas. Additionally, maps and employees are everywhere to assist with navigating.Tickets are very reasonably priced and allows for free roam to choose what activities/exhibits you would like to visit. The only restriction is how much time you have to spare. They have 3 itinerary plans that corresponds to how much time you would like to stay there - 2 hours, 5 hours, 7+ hours. The choice is yours! The only recommendation for change with the facility is to make the prices for photographs more reasonable. Upon entering, everyone gets a group photo taken (which we all know those are never FREE).In fact, they’re $30 here, which is essentially the price of another entry ticket which is absolutely asinine. Many people were just taking pictures of the kiosk screen of the group photo instead of buying it which I don’t blame them.

So much documented history to enjoy and touring the grounds is a fun adventure. Be sure to buy a tram visit to see the additional areas you're interested in. If you visit historical mission control, there are 87 steps to climb up (they have an antiquated elevator that can only hold five people so be prepared for a climb if there's anyone in your party who experience mobility issues). It can get a little hot as well going between areas so bring a fan. Water is 5 dollars and parking costs 10 dollars (you have to access an app using your phone to pay for parking). Have fun binging on space!!!

Great experience. Lots of information and lots of photo ops available. Staff were super knowledgeable which adds to the experience. And some interactive components were available. Tram tours were interesting but maybe not worth the queues under the heat and 15 dollars unless you are really interested in the content. It was dark over some parts of the exhibits but it was good atmosphere.A few things that can be improved. Install misters over the trams. The weather is insanely hot. The queues can also be improved in the morning, was told to leave the queue to collect tickets, only to know that we need to go back into that same queue again after.

I recently visited the NASA Space Center Houston, and it was an absolutely incredible experience! The exhibits are both educational and engaging, allowing visitors to learn about the history of space exploration and the wonders of the universe in an interactive way. The highlight for me was the tram tour to go see the rocket housed in their warehouse. It was amazing to see such a piece of history in-person! The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, and the overall atmosphere is inspiring. If you have any interest in space or science, this is a must-visit destination.

Maitri Patel — Google review

Honestly, a little bit underwhelmed. Maybe I was a too psyched. Should have kept expectations a little low.Worth seeing - Rocket park tram tour, astronaut talk, moon rocks. Can be skipped - astronaut training facility tour (takes too much time, 1 hour). Other exhibits are just ok.One can finish the whole experience in about 3 hours if you reach early and plan the exhibits and tram tour well. Not sure if the VIP tour is worth it, did not do.The whole place definitely encourages one for space exploration. Worth a visit, but plan well.

Abhinav Joshi — Google review

This was fun. I felt like a kid again. It definitely takes a day if you do the Tram Tours. You should get the Historic Mission Control Tour, it is special. The trams are outside, so dress for the weather. You can bring in food, etc. At least we did, so a picnic will save you some money.Overall, I highly recommend for adults and children. There is a lot more for adults than you would expect.

Fantastic exhibits. Nice mix of history and future. I enjoyed being able to walk through models and actual aircraft. There were fun hands-on activities for the kids and kids at heart. One frustration was lack of directional signage within the buildings. We had to double back and search around to ensure we saw everything. We waited too long to get our tickets online so we were unable to take the tram tour. It was disappointing but there was already so much to do that we barely covered it all.

Kim McManus — Google review

Magnificent place to visit with the family. It took us 5 hours to tour the entire place completely. The story there is spectacular. There is a booth where you can take photos and they become a memory in your home. I recommend buying tickets online because they are cheaper. Overall the experience was phenomenal, and I loved all the exhibits. They've got historical artifacts, a tram tour, and even a moon rock which you can touch. Highly recommend!

My family and I visited the Space Center in Houston and it was great! Staff were courteous and helping and the facilities were very clean! We purchased the City Pass because we were only in the area for Spring break so we used it for other venues. The wait was fast. Literally, never stopped walking through the line until we arrived at purse check and then again to scan the electronic tickets. We went on a Tuesday. We spent all day there and still did not see everything. Get Tram and virtual rides tickets early because they sell out fast. The exhibits were very interesting and kept our 10 year-old daughter engaged. The two virtual rides were awesome. It was as if we were truly in space. Loved it!!We all left with huge smiles on our faces and vowed it was well worth the money and will be on our list to return to.

Very cool place. Plan a two day visit and buy the membership. Definitely purchase your tickets in advance online . Try to see 1-2 tours each day.Pros:- Amazing exhibits- Fee-based and free team tours- updated and modern exhibits- Self-serve food ordering- Low cost membership options- Paid option to have breakfast with a ( retired) automatic.Cons- Very crowded- Bathrooms do not provide toilet seat covers- Gift shop items are pricey- Hot and muggy- pay for parking

A bit crowded but overall amazing experience. Interactive exhibits and tons of NASA goodness for space fanatics. Loved learning about the upcoming Artemis missions.Food was quite good on site but a bit of a learning curve on how to order since it's all done at kiosks. The Mission Control tour stopped working during our tour which was disappointing but cool to see anyhow. We did Breakfast with an Astronaut and it was pretty fun to be able to ask questions. If your kids/family love NASA or space this is definitely must do!

My husband and I had an incredible experience visiting Space Center Houston. From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the fascinating exhibits and interactive displays. The highlight was definitely the chance to see the historic Mission Control Center and learn about the incredible achievements of the space program. Walking through the exhibits showcasing actual spacecraft and equipment used by astronauts was awe-inspiring. The tram tour to NASA’s Johnson Space Center was a definite must-do, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the facilities where astronauts train. The whole experience was educational, inspiring, and left us with a profound appreciation for the achievements of space exploration.

Space Center Houston is an absolute marvel for anyone fascinated by the cosmos. Since childhood, the allure of space has captivated me, and this visit exceeded all expectations. The wealth of knowledge and the interactive exhibits make it a haven for those eager to learn and explore the mysteries of the universe. The fun-filled day was a testament to the dedication of everyone involved, from astronauts to the passionate individuals working behind the scenes. A heartfelt nod to their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to expanding our understanding of the cosmos. A must-visit for everyone, as it truly brings the wonders of space closer to home. Gratitude to all the space enthusiasts making it possible!

Very interesting place to spend the day with your family. It’s definitely a full day thing. It’s really hard to visit everything in a couple of hours. There are three tram tours which take you on the NASA campus. All of them have set departures and for the most part all departures end at 3:30. We were only able to see two of them. Mission Control and Rocket park. Best advice if you want to see everything is to get there early. The shuttle and 747 were also really interesting.

Darren Czarnogorski — Google review

Going here was a fun experience. Looking at space equipment , how the astronauts lived on the shuttle, what they ate and experienced, was fascinating. We were there for a little longer than 3 hours trying to see everything. They had a tour shuttle which makes things easier to take in.

Amy R. Prieto — Google review

What a fantastic place to see space craft and learn about America's space history. You can see a complete Saturn V rocket and the space shuttle transport plane. The tour of Mission Control is great, but you need to climb 3-4 flights of stairs. Although there is an elevator for those who need it. While this tram tour is an extra cost, the rocket park tram is free. There can be a very long line for the free tram, so bring your patience. Don't get in the long line if taking the Mission Control tour, just go straight to the tram desk to check-in. I recommend buying your tickets online in advance, and they are timed entry for both the museum and tram tour. They could have better crowd control, as the line for the free tram can run all the way to the museum entrance. This place is a must see for history and space buffs, and is great for school age kids with an interest in the space program. Make time to visit here if in the area. You won't be disappointed.

In town for a wedding, visited with a family of four membership purchased online with the eclipse viewing discount, saved so much! We had a blast! Don't forget to try out the Virtual Reality spot just across from the entrance, $10 pp totally worth it! From the Shuttle to the Saturn V Rocket to all of the fantastic exhibits all held together by a superior guest services/educational facilitators/team members...all were absolutely phenomenal! Thank you!

Tara McSherry — Google review

This place is amazing, would recommend coming when it first opens. We got there by 930am and there was a line on a Saturday already. We reserved the blue tram when we got inside and did the tour which was super fun. Some I had little ones doing the blue tram was a better option. Also, I recommend bringing cash. The gift stores credit card machines were not working and we couldn’t get nothing. Next time, we will be more prepared. Wish we could have deep dived every corner but having toddlers it was kinda hard.Pro tip of photos, utilize your panorama setting on your phone. You’ll be able to be in the picture with rockets. Have walking shoes and water on hand. They don’t allow selfie sticks or extra camera set ups.

Visited again after many years. What a great place. So much to do and see. Lots of educational exhibits. Great gift shop. Food cost was really good considering the captive audience. Come for the day. The tram tours fill up so need to book those virtually as soon as you can. It can get crowded.

A last minute decision, but so worth it.Overwhelming amount of information, even for an almost 5hr visit.Well laid out with good amounts of room to view all displays. The Mission Control room tour was very much worth the extra $15I would definitely recommend a visit here.

Great experience for the family. A little pricey for all that's involved.Lots to learn and experience. Great photo ops and they do get you with nice pictures to purchase too.Nice gift shop, but the food court was basically closed and barely offered anything.Lots of walking and it is handicap accessible for scooters and wheelchairs.

We took our son and daughter when they were young and they had a blast, so we decided to take our sons daughter our granddaughter there. And it was not so fun anymore for a small kid, seems like everything was for and older kid 10years and older. I Remember they had Star Wars and other props that filled up the place. Now it seemed empty, not much for the younger side. We made the best of it for what was there. But not planning to go back until the granddaughter gets older where she can enjoy it better.

Highly recommend visiting here! We got there at 9:45 (10am opening) and there was already a long line to get in.We paid for the Mission Control tour & it was absolutely worth it! Also if you want to go on the astronaut training facility it is recommended that you get your “pass” from customer service right away. They were helpful & asked what time our paid tour was to make sure we got back in time & make sure they wouldn’t overlap. We got lunch in the food lab. Orders are placed & paid for on the kiosk & then picked up at the counters. It’s a little pricey, but we split the 6 chicken tender & fries, so 2 adults ate for less than $20 with a drink. It was surprisingly good for cafeteria food!We waited until later in the afternoon to go outside & see the shuttle & falcon 9. There were less people & it made the experience more enjoyable. The Down to Earth film was also really interesting & not many people were in the theater.

Tiffany Hughes — Google review

Amazing. Spent a whole day here and did the Mission Control Tour. Got to get there right when they open to beat the crowds. We were able explore the 747, Space Shuttle, and Falcon X rocket by ourselves without the crowds. I would go to those attractions first since the regular exhibits can wait if you are able to get in when they open. Tip - book your tickets online because you can get in an hour earlier. Their hours to the public say 10am but you can get tickets to enter in at 9am. 10/10 recommend.

I was the first one in, and last one to leave. Definitely reserve the whole day to explore this amazing place! Easiest to arrive by car or ride share, if you want lunch go early and i also recommend pre-booking your ticket and adding the "Apollo Mission Control Center" tour on as well :D

A wonderful museum! NASA/workers did a wonderful job at the exhibitions! Very engaging and exciting to learn about so many things. Clean and organized! The workers were all nice and polite! The wait to get in was around 10mins. But there were plenty of school children.

If you want to see the history of space travel from the past to the future this museum is well worth it as long as you have a lot of money. The prices were higher than I thought that they should be. The 45 minutes to a one hour wait for the tram is way to much time to Stan in line and wait. They should have more trams. The exhibits are very well put together. There is plenty of parking g if you have an RV.

Great place for visiting! Easy parking ~$10. Tram tours, cinema, lots of interesting exhibitions, Gift shops. There's a smoking area near the place where tram tours begin. It was a little bit crowded, but it's ok. Picnic area and addition restroom are near the main entrance.

My experience at NASA Space Center Houston was very pleasant overall. There is a lot of fun information to take in for both kids and parents to enjoy. Every staff member was very kind and patient with every child who had a curious question or needed help. The only downsides I found during my visit were the out of service stations and damaged electronics for certain activities. I understand that kids can be very rough on the equipment, but many of those items look to have been either out of service or damaged for a long time.Overall, there are lots of cool things to look at and experience. Many areas to take fun family or group photos. The gift shop has a myriad of fun little things and clothes at many price ranges. Would definitely visit again.

Magnificent place to visit with the family. It took us 3 to 4 hours to tour the entire place completely. The story there is spectacular. There is a booth where you can take photos and they become a memory in your home. I recommend buying tickets online because they are cheaper. And the way to pay for parking is another level. They know when you come and go without you talking to someone. You must scan the QR code that is in the parking lots and follow the instructions. It is not difficult at all. 100% recommended for people who are interested in this type of scientific topic.

Had a great day there. Payed extra for the Mission Control team which was cool and I think worth the money. Just such a great experience. Lots of young kids the day we went, but it was a Friday before spring break. Your mileage may vary. I do recommend getting tickets for entrance and tickets for the tram tours in advance. They only had the generic tram tour available when we went. The one that brings you out to the Saturn IV shed. Lots of great info. Kids will enjoy looking and wondering. Adults will enjoy that as well as reading all the great info graphics.

Hermann Park is a large and vibrant park located in Houston, Texas. It features a golf course, Japanese garden, natural science museum, and kiddie train. The vibrancy of the park comes from the millions of visitors who come each year. There are many areas of the park that are in direct sunlight, but there are also shady areas where you can enjoy yourself.

While visiting Texas Hermann Park was on our list during the holidays season. First of all in December it was 80 degree and with a light cool breeze. I just love the weather and on top a place like Hermann Park you can spend all day up there. Its a beautiful park with lots of greenery. There are picnic shelter, train ride which is approx 15-20 min and only for $3 which so cheap or you can take boat or go for long walk. There are ducks and geese. A great place for nature lover.

This is a wonderful park with a ton of different offerings. The park has a large walking/biking trail that covers about 3.3 km and is located next to a golf course. Another section of the park has a walking trails adjacent to a small lake. It is a great place for families and an excellent place to see different types of birds. The Japanese garden and botanical garden are both free to visit and have a lot of beautiful scenery. Finally, the park has a large outdoor theater with free concerts that take place during the summer.

I can’t believe I’m just finding out about the train!!! I loved in Houston s couple years and I moved to Austin early this year. I didn’t have a great experience in Houston. A very chaotic city for my taste. But I really did enjoy going to the Different parks. Herman park was one of my favorites. And was so nice and peaceful. I really loved the trees and benches along the trail. The fountain view. But I never knew about the train!! I can’t believe I missed it! If I ever go back to Houston I’ll definitely be going back to this park.. just for the train!!

Mari Almz — Google review

Huge park... I walked around most of it. Went through the Japanese garden. It was nice. There was a big reflection pool with a pond at the end or it to rent pedal boats. I didn't go there although I saw it. Also there is a child's train that goes along the outer perimeter that I'm not sure where to buy the tickets for. Plus it's next to the museum of natural science. So plan it right and kill two things same day.

My wife and I were just in town and looking for something to do. We heard about Hermann Park, so we decided to check it out. Even though there are several parking lots, parking was difficult. We had to cruise around for a few minutes before finally getting a spot in Parking Lot G, just outside the entrance to the Houston Zoo. Parking was free though in this lot, which was a plus.We were amazed by how huge the park is! It's over 400 acres, so there's plenty to see and do. Upon visiting it, I wasn't surprised to learn the park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. We only came to the park to kill a little time, so we didn't opt to go to the zoo. We mostly just walked around McGovern Lake. It was very hot, but there were some shady spots while walking around. The lake was very beautiful, and my wife loved the odd-looking ducks and turtles. While walking around the lake, we passed by the Pioneer Memorial Obelisk, which was very beautiful. It's a 90-foot obelisk dedicated to the pioneers who settled in Houston. We also saw the Japanese Garden, which is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. The plants, trees, and lush gardens at the Japanese Garden were gorgeous. We were only at the park for an hour, but it was still a beautiful and enjoyable experience. We would advise coming early in the day, especially in the summer as the park seems to get really busy, but we definitely recommend Hermann Park to anyone looking for a place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

The park is always well-maintained, you know? It's like they never miss a beat! And let me tell you, the memories made here are absolutely amazing. It's definitely a must-visit spot whenever you have family in town. Houston is lucky to have such a great place!

A great park to walk, run or just to enjoy. We were lucky enough, to enjoy a beautiful day with sunshine and the day after Christmas. A lot of people were on this spot, to enjoy their day of. Even whole families made their way around their. Its park also includes a beautiful Zoo, opera a running Hill, botanical garden, big fountain and museums.

Fun-Filled Grand Opening at Herman Park's New Playground!I joined the bustling crowd at the grand opening of the new playground at Herman Park. Despite the long lines for entry and the slides, it was absolutely worth the trip and has topped my list of favorite playgrounds. I highly recommend all children experience it.Make sure to bring swimsuits, towels, and a change of clothes for the water park section, which features an artificial river complete with various gates and fountains, ending at a sandy beach area—truly a paradise for kids.Additionally, the playground boasts areas with soft rubber flooring themed around rockets and space capsules, complete with climbing structures. The wooden animal-shaped play structures further enrich the fun atmosphere.

Fabulous park indeed. The monument looks like a small version of Washington monument. There is also a little stream by the monument just like in Washington D.C. There is a amphitheater too. The park is great vibes, lots of people and beautiful ponds. There are lots of ducks in the ponds, bridges, boats and so much more. Large golf area as well.

This is a large park with gardens and a lake right in the middle of the city. The gardens are well curated and the park has several trails for joggers. There’s a nice 8-minute train ride around the park that children and adults alike will love. The lake hosts a few species of ducks and tortoises. The park also boasts an open-air theatre that hosts shows in the late evening. Overall a good place to hang out with nature and take some lovely photos.

It was great. The park was well maintained, very clean, and had awesome walking paths. I specifically went to the Japanese gardens, However, there are many pools and fountains throughout the park. As I walked through the park, many shared my opinion as they used it as a place to recharge by having picnics and just chilling with their kids. There is also the option of using little pedal drive boats to sail around the lake there.

On a beautiful Columbus Day( or National Indigenous Day) afternoon, my family and I decided to take a stroll through Hermann Park, one of Houston's most beloved green spaces. The weather was cool and comfortable, perfect for a leisurely walk.As we entered the park, we were immediately struck by the lush greenery and vibrant colors of the fall foliage. The trees were ablaze with oranges, reds, and yellows, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers. We wandered aimlessly through the park, taking in all the sights and sounds. We passed by families picnicking on the grass, couples strolling hand-in-hand, and children playing on the playground. We also saw a variety of wildlife, including squirrels, birds, and even a family of ducks swimming in the pond.We continued our stroll, and soon we came to the Japanese Garden. This serene garden is a popular spot for visitors of all ages. We spent some time wandering through the winding paths, admiring the koi fish swimming in the ponds, and enjoying the tranquil atmosphere. After leaving the Japanese Garden, we headed to the Miller Outdoor Theatre. This outdoor amphitheater hosts a variety of performances throughout the year, including concerts, plays, and dance recitals. After a while, we decided it was time to head home. We had spent a wonderful afternoon exploring Hermann Park and enjoying the beautiful weather. We can't wait to go back again soon!Glad to have brought my family and had a great time at Hermann Park. It's a beautiful place to visit, especially in the fall. I'm sure anyone will make many happy memories there in the years to come.

Hermann Park is located in the heart of Houston, Texas, and is home to many of the city's year-round attractions. When not exploring the museum, zoo, or theatre, a large expanse of lush grass, trails, and hills greets visitors warmly, no matter the season.Hermann Park is also the home for a multitude of celebrations, from kites to fun runs to concerts. Pet and picnic-friendly, Hermann Park is a great place to hang out with family and friends alike. The only noticeable challenge we've consistently had with the park is its parking and traffic. Hermann Park's festivals bring lots of people to the park, so I recommend getting there with enough time to look for the limited parking spots. All in all, Hermann is a definite visit for the entire family and a great way to spend your weekend or break.

The park's tranquility created an intimate atmosphere, allowing for a peaceful and healing escape. The cleanliness of the surroundings added to the overall charm, making it a perfect spot for relaxation. Highly recommend for those seeking a quiet retreat amidst nature. The lush greenery at Hermann Park felt meticulously cared for, enhancing the overall experience. The well-maintained vegetation added a touch of vibrancy and contributed to the park's inviting atmosphere. It's evident that the attention to detail in nurturing the green surroundings significantly enhances the park's charm.

Beautiful renovation! It's the perfect park to bring the family and enjoy all the fun activities they now offer: $5.00 for the carousel, free park entrance, and a free splash pad. Perfect for a picnic! Parking is a little bit troublesome, and that may cost you a bit. We were fortunate to be there the first day it opened, and we are excited to frequent it more now.

Beautiful park. I only got to see a small part during my but it was beautiful and well maintained. I made use of the shaded pathways to make walking more tolerable in the summer heat. The little train going around the park looked like fun for the family.

This has to be one of the best parks in Houston I have visited many times. There's so much to do and see in this park that each time I visit it i discover something new. There are wild animals like ducks and squirrels you can admire and gaze at. This perk has a reflective pool just like in Washington DC which is amazing and looks beautiful. It also has a Japanese garden which is super cute and quaint. It also has a mini train for the children to ride and it goes all around the park. It also has picnic tables to enjoy with the family or friends you go with that day. The restrooms are super clean and well maintained which is something all the parks in Houston should have at least. The nature is beautiful and everyone in Houston has to come at least once and enjoy this park.

I was excited to find out that this park was so big but it's not what I expected. The park needs a lot of TLC especially the plants and flowers. It would be more lovely to look at if there's lots of flowers and plants surrounding the park. There's a lot of big and old trees but...

This is such an amazing park!! It’s so spacious and comfortable! We had an Easter picnic here with our two dogs and it was extremely nice. We pitched a tent and brought food. Our doggies had plenty of space to run around and play. The park had attendants going around and cleaning up throughout the day to keep the park sanitized. The bathrooms were nice and tidy and they had attendants in there as well. The only drawback that I had about this wonderful experience was that my 6 month old puppy had fleas on him after leaving the park.

Hermann Park is a massive green space in middle of Houston with lots of sidewalks, hills, trails, gardens, event venues such as the amphitheater, golf course, water features, ponds, lakes, and rolling hills for kids to roll down and play on. All is very well maintained and has a secure feeling when you are walking around. Museum of Natural History and the zoo are in the park as well. It's so big it would take several days to really walk it all.

Beautiful park with plenty of family activities and solo activities to do!! There is the zoo, Japanese garden, butterfly center, and cafe around this area. It gets pretty busy on a weekend morning due to families coming in for the zoo. If you are just visiting for the park attractions I recommend seeking parking closer to the outskirts of the park and leaving zoo traffic run it’s course towards the middle of the park. Included some photos of the reflection pool, ponds, and Japanese garden

My niece had an enjoyable experience at the park. There were numerous play areas available, although we were unable to visit all of them. We did, however, visit the spaceship and slides. The slides are covered by canopies to prevent overheating. There was ample seating for adults, which was appreciated. The sand/water area was a great way to keep the children cool, although it was a bit messy. Fortunately, there were nearby rinse-off areas and restrooms. Visitors can also enjoy lunch on the grass or in one of the many seating areas. We will undoubtedly return to explore the remainder of the park.

Not from Houston and visited the park 3 different mornings with my dogs. Great walking areas, well-maintained, clean and felt safe. The exercise paths are gravel and there are large shade trees along much of the trails. As others have indicated, parking can be an issue but given the tremendous museum row and zoo, there is much to do here. Well done, Houston.

Houston Symphony is an internationally renowned classical music orchestra based in Houston. The orchestra performs around 300 concerts a year at the Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, and is known for its Grammy Award-winning performances. A must-see for classical music fans, Houston Symphony tickets are available now!

There are no words to describe the experience of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. The Nutcracker was stunning and captivating!! My mother has Dementia, so this was something we could share together and make a lasting memory for me. ❤

Carlos Burns — Google review

First and last time we come to this venue. This venue is first and foremost one of the most unsafe that I have ever been to. There is ZERO security when entering the building. ZERO.You can waltz right in without any bags being checked, no metal detectors, nothing. This was my first red flag.We get into the venue and our seats require an elevator trip, so we board the elevator and this is our second red flag. The woman manning the elevator was one of the most rude people I’ve ever come across.I am from NYC and I have been to many events including actual legitimate orchestras and even broadway plays and I have never seen people this unprofessional in my life. Nasty to patrons, pushy with her tone. She asked what floor was needed and the man answered. Her response was “every button on this panel has that letter on it TRY THAT AGAIN WHERE ARE YOU TRYING TO GO?” She’s lucky she didn’t have that type of disrespect toward me. That’s all I’ll say about that.We finally get to our floor and through the show fine until intermission and we get up to get drinks. Fine. Keep in mind my girlfriend is almost 9 months pregnant. It is a little challenging for her to go up and down the stairs. We spend about 20 dollars on two soda cans and bottle of water. The lights flicker and it’s time to get back to our seats. We go toward the door and the woman at the door was exceptionally rude. She will not allow us into the auditorium because of the bottle of water. There are zero signs posted about allowing bottled water in the auditorium. And my girlfriend is almost 9 months pregnant. She informs this woman that she is almost 9 months pregnant and she would like to have the water with her just in case. She still refuses with an attitude. My girlfriend went to get her purse to show this woman that she is going to keep the water in her purse just in case she needs it and is feeling light headed.Being 8+ months pregnant is certainly a good medical exception and excuse to allow someone a bottle of water in case she needs to take a drink.Keep in mind this performance is for a Harry Potter film that is incredibly long. One intermission is not going to really help much. She still refuses and acts as if we are a threat .. so she calls security on us. We ask for her name, and she flat out blatantly ignores us. Will not respond when asked multiple times. Ignores us like we are common trash… doesn’t treat us like paying customers. Her photo is posted below. If she doesn’t want to give her name.. I will warn people about her and show potential customers her photo. Beware of this woman. When her supervisor arrives to speak to us she is trying to secretly whisper to her supervisor before he is able to discuss the situation with us and physically gets in between the supervisor and us because she knew she was wrong in the situation and guilty of having a terrible attitude. The supervisor was nice and understanding, he spoke to us and agreed that there are exceptions that should be given for pregnant women as it is a medical exception. He radioed for a refund and walked us to the front end manager Freddy to get us our money back.I will never go back to this venue.TL:DR1. This venue is completely unsafe. There are no security checking bags, there is no metal detector, and there is zero security presence throughout the building.2. The staff manning the elevator is horrendous. Bad attitude. Nasty to paying customers. Talks down on them (like pushing elevator buttons is such a HARRRRDD JOBBB BOO HOO).3. The woman posted below is unfit to deal with the public. She is rude, aggressive, and not worth your time or effort.Pregnant women .. don’t go here. You will only cause yourself unnecessary stress. It is not worth the hassle. The last thing I want to say is this …There are hundreds of people begging for a good paying job. Wanting to give their all and have an opportunity to provide for their families who deserve that position. If you do not like your job, give it to someone else who deserves it. Plain and simple.

Great experience! The venue is beautiful and I absolutely loved listening to the orchestra play the Harry Potter deathly hallows concert. I will surely be back for more concerts. Also there is plenty of parking in the garage, it costs 15$ for self parking or $25 valet.

My son and I had an opportunity to attend the Houston Symphony Summer Concert at Waltrip High School. What an amazing performance and energy the orchestra had. We enjoyed all of the selections from J. Williams (Jurassic Park and E.T), Joseph Bololgne Saint Georges, Tchaikovsky (The Nutcracker). I am so glad that the symphony engages the community by offering free concerts. There was also a instrument petting zoo where people were encouraged to try out such instruments as the cello, viola/violin, clarinet, French horn and drums.

I took my wife here as a surprise and we had a wonderful experience. The venue itself is quite stunning and worth a walkthrough if you arrive early. We visited on a Saturday and couldn't find anywhere to eat without a huge line before we arrived. We didn't realize that food was served before the performances. We each had a made to order pasta that was really tasty. However, the most memorable part of the experience was the performance. We were treated to 2 hours of excellent music. I highly recommend anyone with a interest in classical music or a curiosity in discovering more to visit. You will not be disappointed.

My first time to a symphony and didn't enjoy the huge screen blocking half of the orchestra. I will try again to one without the screen. The screen needs to be put at the very back or just go to one without it. Yes, orchestra level would've been better and that's the section I'll be purchasing next time.

Had a good experience at the symphony. The box office was quick no lines and as soon as we arrived they had employees helping you find your seat quickly and efficiently. The arena is a good size not too big nor too small. We had good middle section seats and the sound was great. The restrooms clean and no lines during the intermission and they have plenty of options in regards to food, drinks and snacks.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a popular destination for visitors, boasting a variety of attractions such as a dinosaur hall and other permanent exhibits, an IMAX theatre, planetarium and butterfly house. This museum is renowned for its educational value and is perfect for both children and adults who are keen to learn about science. It features numerous exhibits that are both permanent and travelling in nature, making it a great place to discover something new every time you visit.

This place is HUGE!! I recommend wearing comfy shoes because we had sore feet after 3 hours and we barely touched on viewing what was available. There is plenty of staff and guards around to ask info and help you find your way or answer photos. It is kept very clean. The bathrooms are clean and plenty for multiple people. When you walk in there are several cashiers to buy tickets and answer questions about exhibits and features. We are already planning our next visit. My daughter wants to have her birthday there.

So much fun for the whole family! Even on a busy holiday weekend, the wait for tickets and the crowd was manageable.I loved the Houston museum of natural science when I was a kid & it was really cool going back as an adult. I feel like there is so much more that they offer now!Do be aware that the rotating exhibits & butterfly center & planetarium all cost extra. Come early if you don't want to pay for the parking garage.

My family of 4 enjoyed our visit at the Houston museum of natural science. Parking was not easy to find, given that it was a holiday week. Once inside, we went to the counter to have out Citypass tickets scanned. The lady at the service desk was super helpful in Audi g me to find my “lost in cyber space-email” passes. This past weekend, we explored lots of exhibits. There were a few exhibits that were not on display. It was great seeing how excited my kids were about seeing dinosaurs bones, elephant, lions, and etc. Precious stones exhibitions are gorgeous. I wish I had more time to dive in more. So much to see and do. It was worth my time and money.

One of the tourist attractions of Houston is Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park (Museum District). It was established in 1909.They have two types of exhibitions: Permanent and Special. Permanent exhibition is included with the museum's entrance fee. The special exhibition has separate fee. Before Thursdays were free admission day, from this year they have changed it to Free Tuesdays (5pm-8pm). For students and adults over 65 has discounts on entrance fee. Be sure to have your ID with you. From captivating exhibits to interactive displays, it's an educational paradise. Their paleontology hall is the largest in the USA containing over 60 major skeleton mounts. I love their Hall of Ancient Egypt and the Hall of Gems and Minerals.Clean facilities and well-maintained exhibits make it a family-friendly destination. Overall, a must-visit for science and history enthusiasts!

## Houston Museum of Natural Science: Dino Paradise!Wow! Just wow! I recently visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and let me tell you, dinosaur enthusiasts, this place is a MUST-SEE.Now, I'm a dinosaur fanatic, and I've been to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, which everyone raves about. But honestly, the dinosaur collection at the Houston Museum of Natural Science blew me away. Here's why:* **Variety and Completeness:** Houston's collection seemed to have a wider range of dinosaurs, with some truly unique specimens I hadn't seen before. Plus, many of the skeletons were incredibly complete, giving you a real sense of these magnificent creatures.* **Interactive Exhibits:** The exhibits at the Houston Museum were fantastic. They weren't just static displays – they incorporated interactive elements and animations that brought the dinosaurs to life. It made learning about them so much more engaging.* **Spacious and Organized:** The layout of the Houston Museum felt more spacious and user-friendly compared to NYC. It was easier to navigate and appreciate each exhibit without feeling crowded.Don't get me wrong, the NYC museum is impressive. But for sheer variety, interactivity, and a well-organized experience, Houston's dinosaur collection takes the crown. If you're a dinosaur lover, this museum is an absolute must-visit!**Bonus Tip:** While the dinosaurs are the star attraction, don't miss the other fantastic exhibits at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. They have something for everyone!

We showed up as soon as they opened, at 9am. They’ve done a wonderful job with updating the museum. It’s been several years since I’ve been there. We actually decided to get a membership this year because my kiddos are old enough now.I’d highly recommend getting there early (no lines), bringing your own food and water, and prepay for your tickets. We’re really excited to go back and check out the other exhibits later in the year and next year. The shark exhibit wasn’t worth the money and the space exhibit was basically a back room in the lower lobby. Lol. Not that I care, because the moon landing never happened. The butterfly exhibit was really cool. The additions that they’ve made to this was great to see. My kiddos loved it.

We enjoyed our time at the Museum! The Houston City Pass can be redeemed at the box office window, and I highly recommend it! We spent about 3 hours, which included a n IMax movie… no extra paid exhibits. We were short on time. We parked in one of the free lots nearby which is about a 5 min lovely stroll by a water plaza. The museum had all the cool exhibits you would expect. Great place to spend the day learning and exploring!

Myself, husband and 2 children visited the Museum this past Sunday. We went to check out the Shark exhibit. It did not disappoint! My son is currently obsessed with sharks and dinosaurs. So the trip was especially exciting for him! When visiting, be sure to bring money for the multiple gift shops and snack bar. I wish we had planned to spend more. (I wanted a shirt!) I would definitely recommend the museum. It was a great learning experience for both children (7 and 11) as well as for myself and husband! I wish I had taken more photos, but I've added the ones I did take. (Remember when visiting, no flash photography allowed!) Overall, the visit was not cheap. Parking was $30. Tickets for 2 adults and 2 children was $125. We spent about $75 at the gift shops. If you are a member, prices are much cheaper.

My first museum of this type. I could have spent all day there!I loved the room of minerals. The displays were phenomenal! I am obsessed. The Cabinet of Curiosities was delightful. However, I wish there was a guide to what is displayed, especially the drawers you can open! Be sure to look up often! The main event for me was the Fossil Exhibit. It is very well put together. Fantastic specimens- teeny tiny to 'Zilla sized!I loved the lighting and atmosphere throughout the Museum. One con- it was very confusing to find a flow to walk around with in order not to miss anything. I found myself a little turned around and I definitely missed some things. A physical map would have been very helpful.

If you're ever in need of an attraction to take up a whole day, this museum has you covered. Start to finish, going through the whole museum took me about 3.5 hours. And that was going as soon as they opened, on my own. Factoring in any kids in tow, typical crowds, and all the extra exhibits not included in the base ticket, you will definitely need to clear your schedule for the day if you want to take in everything this place has to offer. Lots of great information and genuinely interesting stuff to see.

Joshua Handra — Google review

I was pleasantly surprised with how well this museum was put together. It was very busy during a week day, but the lines were moving expeditiously. The wait time to get in was less than 5 min. We went for the kids, which it is very kid friendly, and ended up learning a lot during the trip. Unfortunately, I had a busy schedule so I couldn't partake in all of the amenities, but I would love to visit again.

Butterfly Center was super cool. There is a lot of information about different bugs and beautiful dome where you can see all kinds of butterflies flying around. We saw an iguana and a parrot, too. Definitely recommend visiting.Tickets to the Butterfly Center are sold separately and cost 12 for an adult and 10 for a child (to 11 y.o.)

I went with my daughter for her spring break to check out the king tut exhibit and the Dino exhibit. She loved it and she is six. We spent 2.5 hours there and the only reason we had to leave was to go to another museum to meet our friends.I did take her to see a movie at the 3d movie theater they have and while she only lasted 20 minutes it was due to the showing being a bit for older audiences but the animations kept her curiosity going. I mainly wanted her to see a Dino exhibit and get exposure to 3d movies and also exposure to ancient Egypt. She loved watching the pendulum swing from each floor and she was really interested in the real mummy she saw and the tombs and learning about mummification process (as much as she could understand at her age).

Located in the heart of Houston, TX, the Children's Museum of Houston is a bustling family museum with a wealth of hands-on activities such as a Bubble Lab & Tot Spot. Established in 1980, the Childrens Museum aims to inculcate the passion of learning amongst children through its various interactive exhibits.

This is absolutely a wonderful place to take your child. It's amazingly busy of course, but the kids don't mind. It's is MUCH larger than you'd expect and you'll spend 4 plus hours here very easy. The level of engagement and the amount of wonder seen in their eyes is pretty great. Definitely worth a revisit

This is a super impressive place for kids to play, explore, and learn. It's beautifully done and has a ton of areas and things for kids to do to introduce them to intellectual concepts, imaginative play, and physical activity. The Achilles heel of the place is that it is just completely overwhelming for really young kids. Our 2 year old struggled with just how crowded and intense the place was. Our 4 year old did a bit better.

It's the best children's museum I've been too. There's tons to do and plenty of interactive activities. I'd recommend planning on spending at least 3 hours here but you could easily spend more. They will be exhausted after a visit to this children's museum. They also have paid parking and a cafe inside.

Wonderful museum for kids, it has everything. This museum is full of hands on activities that are educational and entertaining. We spent over 4 hours there, and I'm sure the kids would have loved to spend even more time. The parking garage is across the street, but there are also street parking nearby. Most of the street parking I saw were 2 hrs max though, except for Sunday.Invention Convention has a bunch of fun STEM activities that allows the kids to build all sorts of contraptions. And my other son loved the grocery store and diner in the Kidtropolis. This was a great destination for us to spend a fun filled afternoon. Our kids left with huge smiles on their faces.

Lots of fun and interactive activities to do here, and there is even a mini town for kids. Any attractions will take a long time for the line is very long. Other than that, this place is great! Shout out to the staff who is always cleaning after the kids.

Queen Blossom — Google review

Definitely read the other reviews. It is a fun place that can last a whole day if your kids are older than 5 years. There are activities for the younger kids but not enough to last a whole day. During the summer will get very busy and as many reviewers have said, go on the weekdays if you can and not summer or breaks. We were there after July 4th and it was not bad, but still busy. Our kids had a lot of fun and didn't want to leave. On other note, parking was not bad if you were there early. Buy tickets online so you can enter before others. I took that recommendation from the other reviewers.

Another amazing museum in Houston. This space has multiple floors with tons of hands on exhibits. There’s also the outdoor water area. Many of the exhibits are permanent but they also have temporary ones to honor different cultures. There is a small cafe which comes in handy after playing. There’s a small gift shop. They have a parking garage but there is also plenty of street parking. Free days are Thursday evenings. Check the website for various events like appearances from characters like Spider-Man and Paw Patrol. I’ve been taking my son since he was 1; he’s now 6 and still loves it. Kidtopia is probably our most favorite. They also participate in Museums for All.

I wish I dedicated more time for city pass attractions. If you have kids and you want them to learn and play at same time, this is it…absolutely amazing experience. It is so much fun 🤩Parking is a little cumbersome so wear sneakers as it will be a long walk.

Nice place to bring the kids. They have so many interesting things for kids to play. We went on weekend and really crowded. Can’t really enjoy everything because too many people. I think during weekday will be the best to go.

Great experience with the family. Now, I haven't been since I was a kid myself so there's obviously new additions. Kidtropolis was very engaging and hands on for the kiddos. They still have the giant telephone man made of land line phones. The biggest nostalgic memory that made my day was that they had the SAME blue van in the Mexican village section of the museum!!! My kids climbing in and playing around like I used to do almost 30 years ago, really made my day.

Kevin Finnerty — Google review

You know I was very surprised by this place.. I was pretty skeptical at first from the outside.. but man this was a blast. Tons and tons to do, keeping the kiddo thought process working throughout. There are tons of little projects to do, inside playground to beat the heat, a very nice parking deck, I didn't try the cafe though but it smelt amazing. Definitely recommend for the kiddos!

jarrod london — Google review

Four entire floors of fun plus an entire outside area. My kid can spend an entire day here playing. She loves kidtropolis and it’s just as fun for adults (dare I say).Bring a towel and change of clothes cause your kiddo will get wet from playing outside

A great place for children, I recommend that you come early so you can visit its 10 areas, the staff is very clean but they were not very friendly except for the one at the window check He was very friendly but the others have 3 stars for me.

Karla Santos — Google review

We had a lot of fun here. There is a lot to do and see. The learning aspect almost seems like it’s for older kids and the playing aspect seems like it’s for younger kids so I think it is hard to say what exact age group this type of place is for. So we did more of the playing type activities and skipped a lot of the learning aspects. Our favorites were the grocery store, veterinary office and the outdoor water play area. Everything was very clean but some things were broken and not working. The kids can be the adults in the mini city and have “jobs” and earn paychecks. The adults can be the kids and have dinner served at the diner or bring their sick pet to the veterinarian. The food court cafe was good to stop for lunch and the staff there were so nice and helpful. There were a lot of school classes coming through so it got very busy and loud at times. Bring a change of clothes if you think you need it for the water play area. About half the area is shaded so there were places to stand in the shade while the kids played. There is a small outdoor playground with slides. The indoor climbing structure was closed when we visited. There is a small area that had baby chicks, a snake and some turtles to view also.

Brittany Storey — Google review

We had an amazing weekend and experience. There was something to do to everyone in the family. We are a family of 6 and all ages, our kiddos loved all different activities, even though it was a weekend, all kids had a chance to enjoy all activities.

Veronica Ingram — Google review

It was a fun experience, definitely more than we could do in a morning! We have a membership and it's totally worth it if you're near this location or the Fort Bend Discovery Center. The miniature town was fun and is current Mexico themed (some of the older pictures show a different theme for the town - those are either outdated or from the Fort Bend Discovery Center). Staff was great, helpful, and there's even a little library here!

It's an ideal place for children (toddler to teenage kids.)They hiked the parking price to $15My toddler enjoys it a lot. There is a free family night event on every Thursday 5pm to 8pm.

Great time! We came with our 7yrs old boy. EVERYTHING works in here, lots of interective and learning mechanisms. Very colorful all around and overall happy environment. Highly recommended. We spent good 3-4 hours and never a dull moment here.

We took our 15-month-old and he loved it. We played in the baby & toddler section for about an hour. Then moved outside to explore. So many kids, so much fun. He did get soaked outside in the water activities, so bring a change of clothes.

It was a great day for my 4 year old son. There were so many educational activities to get kids engaged with STEM. As a physicist, I loved the chaotic pendulums, so many different circuits to build alarms, and light up lamps, and so many more activities. We got a free ticket because we were Bank of America account holders, and we just showed our IDs and debit cards. But this promotion was valid in the first weekend of every month. It was extremely busy for a weekend.I liked the restaurant inside the building and their food was good, though it took so long to get ready. We will definitely be back there.

This place is a GIFT. In a word: resources. It’s a huge complex with so many areas I’ve been going for years and still can’t say I know it completely. It’s always surprisingly clean, offering science and cultural activities, always hands on, indoor and outdoor, personnel is always friendly and knowledgeable. In the makers area you find everything your kids might need to make stuff, they even have laser cutting machines, copy machines, in their shop. Every Thursday family night with free entrance, covered parking is usually just 5 dollars.

The Alley Theatre is a renowned performing arts center in Houston that has produced classic and modern theater since its establishment in 1961. The company's two theaters can accommodate nearly 1,000 patrons and its robust program features 16 new plays each year.

I purchased tickets for "A Christmas Carol" from a third party and then was unable to attend and could not get a refund. The Alley Theatre staff accommodated my family and I, and we were able to see the play at another showing. Everyone was so nice. The atmosphere was great and the play was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed their rendition. Thank Alley Theatre! You're amazing!!!

In the past 9 years we've attended multiple plays each season. Prior to that it was more intermittent. Very high quality productions & casts!Today, we had a fun Saturday date day ❤️"Picture from Home" play - unexpectedly good - lots of laughs, tearjerker ending.Pro tip: if you're a student, they have student discounted tickets you can buy online & pickup at the box office (they verify your student id or other official student documentation)

The small, round theater allows for an intimate viewing experience. I love sitting in the front rows of this theater because the performers are right there in front of you, where you could almost touch them! (But you shouldn't do that ;-)) They have talented in- house actors that combine charisma and a fresh take on performance.

Sandra Estefania ?Steff? Lazo-Herencia — Google review

I saw Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. This was a phenomenal show. The cast was fantastic and it was worth every penny. This was a great theater with great facilities.

One of my favorite theatre spots anywhere in the world. Quaint, charming and relatively small space with great sound, convincing sets, and wonderful resident acting. We've made the trip from Austin to see thrilling productions of Around the World in 80 Days (still a favorite), Sherlock Holmes, and most recently, The Murder of Richard Ackroyd. It's always a fun evening out for the family, most productions are good for well-behaved youngish kids, and there are adult beverages available for the grownups. Already looking forward to Dial M for Murder in 2024!

Saw a Christmas Carol here and had such a great time. There are elevators and wheelchair accessible seating. They have a system that works with telecoils in hearing aids. They offer captioning on certain dates.Audio headsets are available for hard of hearing individuals without telecoils on their hearing aids.Audio headsets also available audio descriptions for those who are visually impaired.

Went to watch sense and sensibility and great play and wonderful actors. I bought tickets thinking their covid protocols were still in place. They're all gone. No vaccine card, negative covid test nor mask. Most of the workers had masks . The majority of the audience didn't have a mask. The seats are very close to each other so that makes it an issue. Lack of props and effects aren't the same but they made funny adjustments that added comedy to the play. Still recommend.

Samsoon 61 — Google review

The staff was all outstanding. Helpful, friendly, and on the ball. The special "adult snowcones" was delicious, fun, and refreshing. The theater itself is well maintained, and really well done. The production I saw was outstanding.

Matthew Nuckles — Google review

First time here to see, “The Servant of Two Masters.” I enjoyed this hilarious comedy; the actors were awesome. This is a play for most ages and all cultures, very entertaining. I made sure to sit at the very front in the middle, which made for an even greater experience. I like the smaller theater set up (tickets are cheaper too and way better views no matter where you sit). Even if I sat further up, no one’s head would be in my way, unlike other theaters. If I ever see another play of interest, I will return. I commend the company for not allowing snacks and drinks inside the theater area. Intermission goes quick but viewing a performance at a smaller venue allows for a cozier environment and ability to enjoy a brief snack/beverage and restroom trip. And, the staff were much friendlier and accommodating. When I could not locate my ticket in my numerous emails, the box office just pulled up my name and quickly printed my ticket.

Alley Theatre does a great job. We love their murder mystery plays. We've recently enjoyed some of their other works. I do wish they had more family friendly options. We'd likely be season pass members if they did. The size of the theater is perfect. Practically every seat has a good view.

The comedic genius playing,”The Nerd,”at the Alley Theatre was truly a highlight, delivering laughs that were nothing short of spectacular. The hosts, too, were exceptional, contributing greatly to the overall enjoyment of the evening.

I attended a new performance of A Christmas Carol this year. It was excellent! The cast did a great job. I enjoyed the stage set and singing in this year's version. Also, the Alley does a beautiful job of decorating Christmas trees in their lobby.

Any seat is a good seat. The actors and actresses always give an opening night show. More than ok with seeing the same show twice, it’s always that good.

Plenty of available parking in the garage across the lot.The staff were courteous, the theater was very well kept and the stage was beautiful. As a person whonis hard of hearing, I appreciated the use of a microphone-speaker system which allowed me to hear every word.I am looking forward to attending here again soon.

The Alley Theatre is on of my favorite places to visit. I love plays, and the Alley is the best place to see one, second only to Broadway in NYC. I've seen plays performed better at the Alley than on Broadway! The actors are all just fabulous. Their quality of acting is top notch, and at times I feel like I can't believe I'm watching this level of acting in Houston, Texas! The venue is lovely, stage work is truly exceptional, seats are comfortable - the whole experience is a treat. I do wish valet parking was offered there, but that's a minor inconvenience. I usually valet at the Lancaster Hotel next door.If you are looking for a good experience to be had in downtown Houston, I highly recommend a play at the Alley Theatre, and get good seats down low by the stage! It makes the experience even better! Their prices are very affordable, especially when considering the quality performance you will receive.

Holly Sundbeck — Google review

The theater is very lovely! I came here to see The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, which I highly recommend. They have on-site parking which was a flat $10 and had plenty of available spaces. They offer a bar with alcoholic beverages, water, soda and a small variety of snacks. The theater was more intimate so there are no nosebleed seats. Everything was very accessible. Staff was also kind and helpful.

Theaters

Houston's Miller Outdoor Theatre features free live performances in a variety of media between March and November, including dance, music & theater. The theater is the home of the Houston Symphony, who occasionally offers discounted tickets to performances.

Great place to relax at the daytime and listen to concerts in the afternoon/night (you'd have to check out the theater schedule). There is lot of short-cut grass and many seats in the theater. This was the band "America" performing. Amazing band and amazing performance.

Love to roll out for symphony nights, but there's a huge performance calendar that spans from the spring and usually lasts until the fourth of July celebration. They have free tickets to the covered seating area that can be obtained from the box office but it's open seating on the lawn (chairs to one side and blankets on the other) and you're permitted to bring coolers to the lawn. Glass containers are not allowed but alcohol is. So we usually fill a stainless steel wine thermos with a sweet red or a refreshing white and get cans of our favorite beers and ciders (pro tip remember to hydrate) and we also bring snacks to enjoy and make a nice evening of it. Parking is free but I recommend arriving more than an hour ahead of the start time to get good parking spot with less walking.

We came out to the Kite Festival this afternoon and it was beautiful to experience all the kites and family fun. The only downside was the extreme congestion of cars/traffic getting to and from the park. It’s part of it though being in the museum district. I think more signage would help people navigate better.

The Miller Outdoor Theatre offer eight months of free open-air Profesional theatre to the public, the only one of its kind in the United States. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Lawn chairs on the left side, blankets on the right side of the hill. Parking is a bit tricky, but public transportation is a great option. Depending on time of event, parking F & G are great choices too. Read the signs if you park on the streets. 1700 seats are available under the canopy. Sometimes Free tickets for this seats must be obtained prior to some real popular presentations. Enjoy, let me know if you would like to know more.

Excellent outdoor theatre! I was not fortunate enough to attend a any show here but I’m sure it would be awesome to attend one.Huge space where you can enjoy the show sitting around anywhere. It was good to be out there. The weather was great. The restroom were nice and clean. Went on the 10- 6 and a couple of restroom needed toilet paper and no hand soap. Went the next day and the same soap dispensers were not working. That's about the only thing wrong I found.

My family saw the Beijing Dance Company perform. It was so beautiful and vibrant and emotion. They literally performed three poems through dance with numerous levels of music & effects, and the lighting and stage sets were captivating. My eyes, ears, and mind were glued to the performance start to end. I am so happy my daughter had this amazing experience. She wanted to video tape the entire performance so she could enjoy it again later. Bravo!

The K Green Show — Google review

I've attended shows at Miller Outdoor Theater since the 1960's! The last visit was just as amazing as my first. The shows are always entertaining and provide wonderful sources of diverse free entertainment. I love the new ticketing that allows you to get tickets online, however, we got online 1 minute into the sales, and all center seats were taken. Curious at best, but we still got very good seats!

Georgia Hackleman — Google review

I enjoyed our experience, and I look forward to their next season of free shows. Under the roof nearer to the stage is even better, which sometimes requires RSVP but not always required, and we went down there at intermission despite RSVP required for that show since so many open seats. Up on the hill was fine minus little kids running everywhere. Please get some uniformed armed-security for everywhere around there to prevent any radicalized person from causing harm. I was shocked to not see any uniformed police officers or security who would protect us in a nightmare scenario. It was concerning. Hopefully the new mayor allocates the resources to guarantee our safety at an open place like this, and this theater takes Public Safety seriously. Even if there was undercover security, uniformed officers would be a calming presence and prevention tool. Oct21.2023 was my date.

ScootMagoot46 — Google review

Been in Houston about 16 months and hadn’t heard about the Miller. I’m glad to have discovered this past weekend. We got to see 2 great concerts on Fri and Sat, all for free! The staff here is professional and courteous. The parking was not bad at all. I prefer sitting under the overhang vs on the lawn. Definitely will be returning for some future events during their 100 year celebration.

Glasco Martin III — Google review

There is nothing negative I can say about a public theater that is mostly free to attend. The sound is good, parking was no problem. We went to see Macbeth which is part of an annual summer Shakespeare series. They have plenty of seating as well as lawn divided in half for people with chairs and those on just blankets. The restrooms are clean and there is also a concessions area. I just can't think of a negative or critical instance to note. Also they have a great website to visit for upcoming events.

David William — Google review

Great place for a picnic on the lawn with family and friends while enjoying free live music, an opera or dance!

Lloyd Maher — Google review

I had a wonderful time watching the Houston Symphony Orchestra and fireworks at Miller Outdoor Theatre on 4th of July. The theatre is located in Hermann Park, a beautiful green space in the heart of Houston. The theatre offers free performances of various genres, from music and dance to theatre and opera. The theatre has a large covered seating area, as well as a spacious lawn where you can bring your own blankets and chairs. The theatre also has a concession stand and restrooms for your convenience. The performance was amazing, with the orchestra playing patriotic tunes and classical favorites. The sound quality was excellent, and the audience was enthusiastic and respectful. The fireworks show was spectacular, with colorful bursts of light and sound filling the sky. It was a perfect way to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends. I would definitely recommend visiting Miller Outdoor Theatre if you’re looking for a fun and affordable cultural experience in Houston.

Brewery

Houston's oldest brewery has an amazing beer garden and restaurant, with a variety of beers to choose from. It is also known for its strong tradition in the brewing industry.

Great brewery to hang out at with massive outdoor space. Have always been happy with any food ordered here. Usually go with the spicy chicken sandwich that is actually hot, but balanced with some blue cheese. Really enjoy it here, great food, drinks, and atmosphere.

Had the Greek pizza and my family had the wagu burgers. Everything was delicious. I had the honey and agave cider and I wasn't a fan of the after taste but I thoroughly enjoyed the hot cider! So delicious. Love the artwork inside! Really nice location with great atmosphere

Highly recommend!! The atmosphere and vibe is so nice. The brewery is next store. They have an inside dinning room plus a really nice heated outdoor area as well with a water fountain. They make there own beers and even there mixed drinks and in house as well. The food is excellent and service is excellent as well. Very laid back atmosphere if you’re looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy good food and some in house brews.

I ordered a vegan pizza which was absolutely fantastic. It even had fresh basil on top. My friend had a regular pizza with arugula on it. This place is super nice with tons of parking in lots on both sides of the street. I'm not a beer drinker but I tried a honey agave cider that was good and a pinot noir which was nice. My friend tried a couple of beers that she said were good. I would go again as they have something for everyone. Outside seating is open table and there are large screen TVs to view sports. I gave it a 4 because service could have been a little better, but not a deal breaker.

I've been to St. Arnold's a few times and it never dissapoints. They offer their emblematic Houston beers plus their seasonal ones. Food is great and suitable for sharing. Half of the outdoor seating is under a big roof so no need to worry about the sun.Indoor seating is now reservation only. Expect it to be busy Fri-Sun. Brewery tours are available. They have parking on site and additional parking is available a block away. Staff has always been polite and helpful with recommendations.

Mirka Mendez — Google review

It's not the craft brewery it used to be. Definitely gotten a bit commercial. But this place still has a nice hangout vibe outside. And inside it feels a little more upscale than other brewery eateries. The food reviews were mixed in my group. Some said the pizza was the best they'd ever had, while others complained of overcooked burgers. But overall, the staff was very friendly and the food was tasty. It's a shame they don't have a better beer selection. Being so large, there are very few choices and most seem very middle of the road and mainstream.

Ferrum Campitor — Google review

The beers were good, but nothing too special. The food was all delightful. I was pleased to see some healthier options on the menu that still were satisfying. Though the pizzas being carried out all around me looked outstanding and I wish I would've tried one. It's a short ride to get a little break from the busy downtown area. Cute outdoor seating.

Incredible food, impeccable service and atmosphere to die for 💕Our waitress Lauren was friendly and very helpful. The best root beer in Houston is St. Arnold's on tap. So good ✨For foods we had the Major Mushroom pizza and the Fish & Chips. Delightful truffle scent abound with both dishes. You can tell everything is made in house. Want good bread? Eat at a good brewery 🔥🍞The aesthetic of the place and the decor is so great! The painted murals on the wall, gothic architecture and stained glass windows really set the mood. The surrounding outdoor area is full of character- between the art cars, giant fountain and spacious patio, every seat is the best seat in the house.I'm so happy there's a place like this in my hometown.Bonus points: *Also their tables have purse/bag hooks for convenience*

Hip place to hang out but in my opinion there could be more beer options on the menu. The inside seating is pretty neat and air conditioned! The beer garden is nice but the heat/sun is brutal if you can’t sit under the main metal cover. It is definitely worth a visit if you are passing by.

I recently visited Saint Arnold Brewing Company while I was in town in Houston, Texas. I had heard great things about the brewery, so I was excited to check it out.I started my meal with the Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich, with no pickles. The sandwich was absolutely delicious! The chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy, and the breading was crispy and flavorful.I paired my sandwich with the Elissa IPA, which was the menu's suggested beer pairing. The IPA was very drinkable and had a good balance of hops and malt. The hops were present, but they weren't too overpowering. The malt gave the beer a nice sweetness that complemented the fried chicken perfectly.I was also really impressed with the brewery's layout and architecture. The brewery is housed in an old warehouse, which has been converted into a spacious and modern space. The walls are lined with murals of beer-related artwork, and there is a large bar in the center of the brewery. There is also a nice outdoor seating area, which is perfect for a warm day.Overall, I had a great experience at Saint Arnold Brewing Company. The food was excellent, the beer was great, and the atmosphere was very inviting. I would definitely recommend this brewery to anyone visiting Houston.

Also it is pet friendly so you don’t have to leave your fur babies at home.

Went there for a office party and got the chance to explore the brewery. It is the oldest craft brewery in Texas. The restaurant and beer hall has a lot of artwork which portrays the history of the brewery. The wooden beams and chandeliers gives a Game-of-Thrones feel. It has both inside and outside seating arrangements. The inside arrangement is made as chapels with a lot of artworks. There is a fountain in front of the restaurant which looks like a beer chalice overflowing. Sitting outside, having your food and enjoying the fountain would make your day. The Beer Garden also features some art cars on the another side of the restaurant.I highly recommend it not only for the food and brewery but also for the artworks and history.

Monday night dinner and brews with friends night. The place is huge, you have the choice to eat outside or inside, they have heaters outside if it's chilly. Bring your 4-legged best friend and enjoy their selection of brewski's. I had the Turkey hoggie & my wife had the Grilled Chicken. Drinks: Dry Cider, kiwi cider, and Irish Hello Stout, plus my wife had a flight. The food was good, the brews were great, and the vibe was chill. Highly recommend if you find yourself in the area.

Cool craft beer spot in Houston. Tried a couple of their beers and I think the IPAs are what they do best. The Art Car IPA was my favorite (apparently one of their most popular beers). The pizza was fresh and pretty good in that puffy American crust style. The burger and fries were only ok to my taste. I think the main draw for the place would be the giant outdoor patio area space and the great beer. I would definitely go back and encourage others to do the same. Cheers!

I had an amazing time at this brewery! They offer a fantastic variety of beers, making it a great spot for beer enthusiasts. The ambiance is top-notch, with an antique design and a special car collection featuring icons like Jimi Hendrix and bands like Earth, Fire, and Water. Plus, the view of the Houston skyline is breathtaking. It's also a family-friendly place with plenty of games for kids, making it an excellent spot for everyone to hang out and enjoy.

Nature & Parks

A 12 acre park in downtown Houston with a family-friendly putting green, interactive water features, and public art displays The eclectic elements at Discovery Green include public art, an engaging splash pad during the warmer months (most of the year), and a family-friendly playground.

Nice park there are many things to do for everyone. They do have nice skating ring. Yo uh can do kayaking as well here. Also fountains for kids as well which are amazing, particularly in summer. They have horse carriage ride as well. Also there is street parking here but it's only free after 6 pm otherwise it costs 2$ an hour which is okay as it's downtown. We visited on Saturday.

I love this park. It’s full of family oriented things, full of things for kids to do but also it’s great for a romantic walk and copping a squat in the grass. Great food trucks and vendors are never far away it there are places to eat and get drinks from too. Love it!

This is one of my favorite spaces for both my professional and personal photography work. Houston has a number of photogenic spaces, but Discovery Green brings all the best in one space.Photography aside this open communal space was designed with people in mind. There are benches perched under cooling trees and pockets of serenity all over. If you have a chance, I also suggest attending any events held here as well.

Very nice park. Lot of room to play and fun playgrounds for kids. If you come with kids bring a sheet of cardboard to slide down the grass hill. Also just a nice walking area after dinner or lunch. If you like to roller skating they have fun rink and skate rentals

I didn't really get to fully enjoy this place. But me and my date walked through it, before going someplace else. There's so much to see. Weird lights, Pixar mini putt, kid's playground, skating rink, echo seats. I definitely want to come back and experience it better with my date.

Houston being such busy and crowded city, one quiet park and greenery in the middle of city is like blessing in itself. This park is exceptionally fun for kids as they can play in the water fountain, kids playground, swing and slides and many more.Additionally, this park is well known for all the free and fun activities almost every weekend that includes yoga, face painting, foods, painting, dance and many more. Just don't miss out, because the activities usually takes place before the noon. Most recommended if you have kids or just chill out by yourself.

This place is such a family friendly place and very fun to hang out. You can always find something to distract yourself. Weather your single or married and want to bring the entire family they have something for you. Fun activities for the kids and when your tired of the heat you can go inside the café restaurant to cool off. You can always go online to see what type of entertainment they have going on at the pavilion (FREE)!! Great place to take photos.

Lovely family friendly park. Lots of activities for kids to enjoy. Including water fun to cool off on a hot summer day There's a restaurant at the park as well as others outside the park but a short distance. There is also a mini food vendor at the park next to a picnic area. Visited on July 4th so there were lots of families. Still a very relaxed environment

Discovery Green is a must-visit spot for locals and tourists alike. One of the best place in the heart of Houston surrounded by high rise buildings. A true downtown attraction and the best place to spend fun time with your family. Great place to entertain your children.

We went there for the Autorama at George R Brown. They had a flea market set up and an ice skating rink for everyone. They had a few food trucks and it was a nice time. They have a lot of restaurants that surround the immediate area as well, but most of them are high priced. We parked in the parking garage so we ended up spending $30 to park since we were there for over 2 hours.

If there were a heart of Houston, I'd pick this or Herman Park. It is a large open space that hosts something new almost every weekend. Next to the convention center and stadium with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Parking is supported by local garages and some street parking if you're lucky.

David William — Google review

We came here specifically for ice skating but we’re pleasantly surprised by the beautiful lights display. Tickets for ice skating must be purchased in advanced, there was a long line but they were kind enough to give us more time to skate even though we didn’t take full advantage of the time since ice skating is a crazy workout! We did however love the lights and took an opportunity to get some wonderful photos. Such a beautiful magical place 💫

Tiffany A — Google review

The park is located downtown across from the convention center. Not a bad spot if you have smaller kids with you. The lake isn’t all that much to look at but you can go out on kayaks and paddle. There are some gorgeous lotus flowers growing out of the lake though. Overall, it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.

Came here to catch the last outdoor movie for the summer which was the movie turning Red. We came with our blankets and was able to find a nice spa in the grass and have our snack with us and enjoy the movie. There was plenty of room. Once the movie was over. We did my great over to the playground area where there were seemingly hundreds of kids playing of all different ages. The area is well lit and very clean. My 7-year-old really enjoyed himself. It's definitely a place that he wants to come back to. All different types of food available for purchase by vendors

During one of the scorching hot days that Houston had experienced recently (June 2023) my family and I embarked on a visit to downtown Houston and the delightful Discovery Green Park. Our children had an absolute blast at the playground and the nearby water features.Taking a leisurely stroll around the park allowed us to bask in the serene ambiance, surrounded by lush trees and vibrant greenery. It was a precious moment of quality family time.Without a doubt, I'm marking this as a must-visit spot for our future trips to Houston. It's a perfect blend of fun and natural beauty.

We love Discovery Green. It is such a great outdoor space to display and enjoy art, live music and fun events. Here everyone can find some kind of activity to enjoy. It is a beautiful and relaxing place to unwind, especially with kids. They will love the interactive water features. There is always something going on concerts, movie screenings, public art exhibits, performances, exercise classes and the list goes on. If you get hungry you can grab refreshments and a bite in one of the restaurants.

Very nice green space in Houston. Has areas for festivals and concerts, sporting area, restaurant, a roller skating rink, and a pond. Parking is available via a few top dollar lots or street parking if you can find it, which is a cheaper option. Place was clean and had several art pieces in the area along with a children's area.

Whatever the occasion or season Discovery Green is the place to be to meet with family, friends, a/o date. There are a couple of restaurants available on site as well. Great for children. Plenty of space for them to release some energy. I cycle and mini moto ride to this area. During the day is nice but at night, let me say oh wow. You can bring a towel or blanket to have to sit and eat listen to your music. The parking may be a tight squeeze depending on current events there or surroundings businesses and time of day or if it’s a weekend get there early or super early. Have fun ya’ll.

Outdoor Activities

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is a 155-acre nature center and arboretum located within Houston's Memorial Park, open to the public for free daily from dawn to dusk. The arboretum was originally developed in 1951 by Robert A. Vines and the Houston Botanical Society, with construction on the nature center facility begun in 1967.

Well worth the $5 to park, and free on Thursdays. This is such a green gem in the vast cityscape of Houston. It’s expansive and superbly maintained. I can only speak to the experience of a parent to young kids, but there’s way more to it than the much-appreciated play space and indoor discovery center. Trails upon trails, lovely views, pretty flowers, and plenty of shade. I saw plenty of hikers, cyclists, and puppy parents enjoying the space too. We’ll definitely be back.

What a beautiful piece of nature in the city. Really love what they've done with the place. Will be bringing the family here for nature walks every weekend. So peaceful and pretty! Highly recommend. 5 dollars to park and enjoy the gorgeous scenery (especially in fall) is nothing. Definitely plan on getting the park membership.

A very peaceful area with a ride different trails to be able to walk around and enjoy. Not a place for biking or running. It’s really an area to be able to walk and enjoy nature, beautifully manicured, and well taken care of. They did have a nice playground for kids to enjoy as well. Highly recommend and will come back. Parking surrounding the arboretum is pay for an entire day. It was $5.50 when we went.

This is a beautiful place to visit while in the Downtown area! It is a well designed nature park with ample parking if you come early in the day. I did not visit the Nature Center on this trip, instead I came to simply walk the trails and soak in some sunlight. The trails are easy to access from the parking area and there are shorter trails and longer ones. I enjoy the views and the wildlife! A memorable part of Downtown Houston 💯

This is a really peaceful and calm place to visit if you're in the Houston area. Admission is free but you have to pay around $7 for parking. They have walking trails with a bunch of trees and Texas wildflowers. This naturally attracts a lot of bugs, butterflies, and birds to the park. Make sure you bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen. They've got an informative nature center and the staff is friendly too. Highly recommend!

Without a botanical garden, this arboretum seems lacking to me. So much potential to make this place more lively but this arboretum and nature center turned out to be very underwhelming except for some nice paths to walk on.If you’re looking to get away from people and to just walk along some trees then it might be worth it to visit this place. However, if you want to see more than just some trees then this place might not be it for you. This place is definitely not worth a visit if you’re out of state. Check out other Houston parks (like Hermann Park) instead!Parking is free on Thursday, otherwise you can pay $5 via meter or an app.

The entrance off of 610 leads you close to the nature center. Even on hot days there are one or two shady spots. It's a fantastic place to spend a day and get some exercise in as well. There in an abundance of local and invasive flora and fauna which you will likely run into if it's not too crowded. There is a play area, shady trails and a few ponds and what is passable as a small lake. Sometimes there is a guy who sells great popsicles. If it gets too hot there nature center is there to cool off a little bit out does close so monitor the times. There is a water fountain and you can get cool if not cold water after running it for fifteen seconds. The bathrooms are always exceptionally clean and the staff/volunteers are fantastic. We come here almost every week.

A true sanctuary, with carefully arranged trails [some shaded, some veryyy sunlit]. Seems like there's been a lot of conservation steps taken to revitalise the local ecosystem, so that makes the path-only requests all the more significant. There are plenty of benches throughout for folks like me that needed to sit&think. Really grateful that there's a spacious natural place in this otherwise car&road-heavy city.

Sarah — Google review

This is amazingly a peaceful, quiet experience right in the middle of Houston. I like to come here when I want a bit of nature but don't want to drive too far out of the city. It looks different in every season, and the employees put a lot of work into this place. There has been construction for years around the Visitors Center but that has made a lot of progress and you are able to walk directly through the area now. There is a range of different habitats and the natural paths aside from the boardwalks allow for quiet walking without it being muddy. The Arboretum is quite dense. I've been to others where there are sprawling grass lawns, but here there is a lot of vegetation to protect, so you are for the most part limited to the paths, but they are spacious. You won't get fully disconnected from the city; there is a regular train nearby that you will most likely hear during your visit (especially if you're out on the edges), but you will still encounter lots of wildlife like a wide variety of birds, turtles, and squirrels. I like taking pictures of seasonal birds, butterflies, and flowers. And the Arboretum paths are so sprawling that it never feels crowded. You might pass someone and then walk for a few minutes without running into anyone else. Parking is $5 or you can opt to buy the annual pass for $40, which is definitely worth it.

Awesome kiddie area and a building with souvenirs and learning centers. Entry is free but parking is about 5 dollars.

Contains a nature visitor center and shop, multipurpose room, playgrounds, parking lots, and indoor restrooms. Despite being located close to the city, the arboretum is a great place to get away from the busy city life.Wish the parking was still free (like before).

I remember this being just a patch of dirt road that you had to know about to come and park your car anywhere. Now there is a center, paid parking everywhere, inner loop for walking only, outer loop for running and you'll see some service ATV's. The center is something for kids, a great and informative place.

Located on the Rice University campus, the "Twilight Epiphany" Skyspace is an amazing art installation that features stunning light and sound displays. It is one of the most impressive sites in the world to watch at sunrise or sunset, and it is definitely worth a visit!

Made a trek via public transportation from out near airport to visit this art installation. (if you know Houston- that’s a feat!) …it was completely worth it. Arrived shortly before dusk. Nice intro from art student/volunteer docent. Not too crowded; plenty of available seating on top and below. Pictures cannot do it justice. It was beautiful to watch & tranquil to enjoy. Very cool experience for sure.

Lyl Rose — Google review

I love this space on the Rice Campus. There was a decent sized crowd on this pleasant evening. Why a 4? First, there was a crane parked on the lower level, taking up space and diminishing the experience. Second, there wasn't much of a light show this evening (changing colors), which is odd given it was free museum Thursday and I suspect it's a nice way to cap the evening. Of course I will return and bring out-of-town guests.

Carlos Ramirez — Google review

Located inside the University. It looks like an art piece and it lights up after sunset, although sometimes it doesn't turn on due to technical difficulties. If you really want to see the lights, it might be a good idea to call first before making the trip over. The Moody lot is pretty close and it's a paid lot. I don't think there are any free ones on campus. Be carful where you park as some are restricted and you will get towed. That being said, the campus is very peaceful and it's a nice place to take a leisurely stroll. We enjoy coming here in the evenings for sunset.

Tommy Chen — Google review

The light show. It was magical. It was majestic. It was magnificent. Contrast the artificial lighting vs natural lighting. The light show was mesmerizing. As I stared at the darkness outside and the light inside, they became one.

Dena Sims — Google review

A very meditative experience if it were not for all the 50 or so tourists. It gives a very peaceful and reflective ambiance and I was so impressed and amazed walking through Rice to witness this kind of natural-yet-electronic sculpture/pavillion. The lights are much prettier when you view from the outside or sitting in the lower level of the structure, not the top.

Sarah Myers — Google review

Stumbled across this when we were staying in the area. We were there for sunset, light sequence was awesome against the clouds and lightning in the background!! There were several people there enjoying the quiet and meditating. Parking available along the street. It’s quick and easy to stop in and stay for a short visit. If you go to the website that’s shown when you are reviewing this location on the map it will show the best times to arrive for your visit!!

Jimmy Ferrazas — Google review

Beautiful experience at sunset but it runs at sunrise too. Free to view but It is a college campus so unless you're a student with a permit you'll need to pay to park in 10 minute increments so make your trip short at the right time You can spend as little as a dollar

Located inside rice university- you must park (its free) inside a campus parking garage and take an elevator up.it’s such a relax space to enjoy a summer night. The lights do change colors every so often.

Claire — Google review

This exhibit is best in the twilight hours until dark. An inspiring place to relax and reflect. The acoustics are also great. If you can get in alone, it's a wonderful experience to practice and enjoy the views. Thank you, Rice University, for keeping this open to the public.

Weston Gameson — Google review

It’s magical if you don’t know how it works and believe in the hypnotics light changes during natural sunset and sunrise. Turns out it’s lit by 256 LEDs with very smooth artificial light transition. So this show really can be played anytime with light contrasts but less effective through the aperture (open sky hole) of course. I guess this is the type of disappointment you get as a kid grows older finding out Santa Clause is not real. Still worth a visit to observe the sublime color changes and pay the $1/10 min parking. 😆 Bonus: super romantic for couples to sit on the benches upstairs or picnic on the grass.

Felisa Zhang — Google review

A space that invite you to explore geometric forms integrated with nature. At early morning and night there are lights sequences that turn this place into a surreal one. No dogs allowed.

I've lived in Houston for a year. I moved here from the Midwest. I was trying to find some unique things to do in Houston that were inexpensive or free. This looked amazing based on the reviews and it's free except for the parking. You can go for sunrise or sunset.Based on reviews it seemed as though sunset was busier and since I was going alone I didn't want to deal with crowds. It said to arrive an hour before sunrise. It's on the campus of Rice University. There was no one there when I arrived .There was no lighting in the art structure. Frankly, there was little lighting on campus. I was a little concerned for my safety. It said the light show started 40 minutes prior to sunrise. That time came and went and nothing happened. But since I was up I decided to stay for the sunrise.Eventually a few other people showed up. Right as the sun started to rise a guy started to mow the lawn right next to us, I mean literally inches away! That took the wind out of my sails. The sunset was still pretty, although it looked better in my rearview mirror as I drove away. I am willing to give the sunset option a try because the reviews were current for that. You have to park in an on-campus parking lot which is about $6. It's about three or four blocks away from there. The concept is very interesting just disappointing that the show didn't happen. When I got home, I reviewed the website meticulously to be sure I hadn't missed any pertinent information about the sunrise show not happening on certain days or at all for that matter. I couldn't find anything. Oh well, you learn something new everyday

NORA Wilmot — Google review

It was my first time visiting James Turrell’s at sunset. It definitely felt different than in the daytime. I like both experiences.Right after sunsets, the light was turned on the colors were changing. I don’t know if my daughter was tired or amazed, she sat there and watched the lights changing for awhile.Parking at Rice was not free. We spent $7 this time. I think there are some cheaper options around, which is near the stadium. I remembered I spent about $3 last time.

Lily M — Google review

For a distinctive Houston experience blending art and ambiance, explore James Turrell's Twilight Epiphany. The mesmerizing installation is free to enjoy, with the only expense being parking.

Mr.S Travel Quest — Google review

Must see for art enthusiasts or fans of James Turrell! A guide is available at the sculpture to answer questions and give a short introduction right at the start of sunset. Try to arrive 10-15 mins before sunset to get a seat. The guide recommended sitting downstairs. Garage parking is available close by for $3.

Mehr Sood — Google review

The colors are beautiful but during the show at sunset some tranquil music set to the color changes would've been more impressive.

Charlie Chang — Google review

I love the idea that if you put a Turrell on a college campus it becomes a party turrell. A crew of girls had a picnic and were playing trivia. Another group was taking photos up above. We missed the sunrise/sunset lights (aka the Twilight Epiphany) but it was still beautiful in the darkness. Never been to a Turrell with multiple levels... did you know there are 75 different Turrell's throughout the US? How many have you been to?

Joe Ahearn — Google review

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful experience. Strongly recommend bringing some headphones, turning on some Vivaldi, and experiencing a truly meditative sunset or sunrise.
