Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Police Unit, is currently accepting applicationsfor a vacant Administrative Officer III. The candidate selected for this position will be responsiblefor coordinating the recruitment, training, ongoing assignments and evaluations of volunteers forthe NRP Reserve Officer Program. The incumbent will manage the administrative detailsassociated with the program, prepare reports and work with his/her counterpart responsible forother areas of the State. Candidates may be required to work in all weather conditions, weekendsand shifts longer than eight (8) hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to twoyears of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degreefrom a college or universityfor the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Conservation practices.
  • Knowledge of Boating practices.
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Understanding of volunteer motivations and processes is preferred
  • Demonstrated community involvement and or volunteerism
  • Previous experience in event planning or project management is necessary
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable with spokesperson and presentation role
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, internet, scanner, email and phone
  • Demonstrate ability to drive a truck pulling a utility trailer or vessel
  • Demonstrate leadership on project teams preferable with a volunteer group or organization
  • Demonstrate experience in managing benefits, maintaining resources, and tracking the service of approximately 100-200 volunteers
  • Able to adjust to changing conditions or priorities
  • Proven ability to proofread documents
  • Demonstrated high proficiency in Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and internet software
  • Familiarity with databases and social media.
  • Willingness to travel statewide as needed with a provided vehicle

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
